'Make Agartala doctrine part of India's | New Delhi, Feb 26 (TIWN / IANS) Tiny Tripura's style of handling insurgency and building relations with Bangladesh should be taken into account by India's foreign policy planners while dealing with neighbouring countries, says a senior journalist with considerable experience of reporting on eastern India.“The Agartala doctrine is based on the critical role played by Tripura in India's foreign policy,†said Subir Bhaumik, editor of “The Agartala Doctrine: A proactive northeast in Indian foreign policyâ€, at the New Delhi launch of the book organised on Thursday by the Society for Policy Studies (SPS). Bringing together a rich mix of perspectives from academics and practitioners from South Asia, the book, published by Oxford University Press (OUP), provides a window for all those interested in understanding India's foreign policy vis-a-vis its neighbours. TPSC’s unfair selection process e | AGARTALA, Feb 26 (TIWN): TPSC once again received major jolt from the HC after the petition was cancelled and the HC has given direction for re-recruitment in the post of Assistant Professors. It is to be mentioned here that the HC has kept the judgement reserved to the recently concluded final hearing on a writ petition filed challenging the Tripura Public Service Commission’s selection process for the post of Assistant Professors. In the previous hearing the Division Bench of the High Court of Tripura comprising of Chief Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice S.C. Das reserved the judgment. The Bench was seemed to express its anguish as to why the TPSC did not follow the guidelines framed by UGC while selecting the candidates. The Court time and again iterated that it wanted the TPSC be transparent in all respects. Tripura Public Service Commission (TPSC) grossly flouted the reservation rules in the recruitment of Assistant Professors in different degree colleges. After the BG freight train has made its entry in the state next is the extension project of the Indo-Bangla rail link for trasns-border business. After long six years India-Bangladesh railway project was finalised and the Indian government has sanctioned Rs.580 crore for the vital rail link. It is to be mentioned here that the DoNER (Development of North Eastern Region) ministry has agreed to provide Rs.580 crore for the new railway project. The Agartala-Akhaura railway project would provide a major boost to development and economy of the north-eastern region of India and eastern Bangladesh. The project would boost Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Act East' policy.Indian government has the highest priority to the Agartala-Akhaura railway project that would automatically connect the rail network of both the countries developing the bonding between two countries. Presenting the Railway Budget 2016-17 in Parliament today he said, Indian Railways have opened the long-awaited Broad Gauge Lumding-Silchar section in Assam, thus connecting Barak Valley with rest of the country. The railway budget 2016 announced on Thursday, announced for better connectivity with its special focus on North Eastern zone and also Jammu and Kashmir. “To connect the whole country with railway is this budget’s aimâ€, said Prabhu while addressing the Budget session in Parliament. Railway Budget 2016 : Suresh Prabhu to p | AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, Feb 25 (TIWN): Will Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu increase passenger fares and freight tariff? That's the question that pops up as he presents his ministry's annual budget for the next fiscal amid shrinking margins, that is leaving little room for modernisation, upgrade and safety.In the previous budget, the minister spared passengers from a fare hike, but freight rates were increased by 2.1 percent to 10 percent, even on commodities such as grain, pulses, urea and coal. And in July 2014, the hikes amounted to 15 percent in passenger fares and 6.5 percent in freight. The 437-km Lumding-Silchar and Badarpur-Agartala gauge conversion work was sanctioned in 1996. It was declared a national project in 2004, thereby ensuring uninterrupted funding from the central government's general budget. After Modi Govt came to power in 2014, Tripura railway projects gained speed after that turbulent period of insurgency from 2006 to 2009. BG freight train service to stabilize th | AGARTALA, Feb 25 (TIWN): Commencement of BG freight train in Tripura on regular basis to stabilise the flow of goods into the state and will also meet an end to the rise in price of the goods. If such goods trains are operated on a regular basis by the NFR, the availability of food grains, transport fuels, essentials and other commodities would increase and prices would be reasonable. Once the train starts operating its service in the state the state will get relief from the price hike and there will be balanced supply of goods into the state.
