AGARTALA, Feb 26 (TIWN): Although people of Tripura were expecting for the introduction of the superfast trains from the capital Agartala to be placed in the Rail Budget but State has to wait for necessary infrastructure development in this region because CPI-M backed Congress Govt neglectd the whole northeastern region. After coming to power in 2014, Narendra Modi led BJP Govt accelerated massive developments in this region. It is to be mentioned here that the railway budget has placed the issue of improving the railway connectivity to Mizoram and Manipur which will develop the interstate railway connectivity in the NE region. Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu said that Mizoram and Manipur will be brought under Broad Gauge map of the country soon with commissioning of the Kathakal-Bhairabi and Arunachal-Jiribam Gauge Conversion projects. Speaking on the issue of BG passenger train connectivity of the NE states, Prabhu said that Ralways will connect all the NE state including Tripura soon.At present the conversion work of metre gauge to broad gauge work has been completed upto Agartala from Badarpur in Assam and successful trial run has been completed. Ongoing railway work is on for connecting southern most city Sabroom and Akhaura (in Bangladesh), both from Agartala.

As the Railway Budget was presented in the Parliament, hope grew stronger amongst the people of Tripura as they were expecting the introduction of the super-fast trains.

Super fast trains if  introduced in the North-Eastern state it would have developed connectivity with the other state.

People from interior landlocked parts of Tripura have to travel some 600 kms for almost 24 hours on the hilly national highway 44 to reach Guwahati, Assam. Guwahati is the closest railway station for the Tripurites. The other option that is available in the hilly terrains is to travel by expensive air service.

However, Tripura is reaping the peace dividends with rapid economic development and improving connectivity.

Only due to the initiative of the central government it has become possible to boost the transportation and communication facility in the state. With the successful trial run of the BG train to Agartala railway station it has paved the way for the development of the transportation and connectivity in the state.
