Lack of govt intervention leading to pet | AGARTALA, Feb 8 (TIWN): On the one hand where the state is yet reeling under the continuous threat of petrol crisis, the so called efficient government of Manik Sarkar is busy in hoisting bike rally ahead of the election wasting litres of petrol’s to woo the voters. Despite of taking any action to curb petrol crisis from the state, the authority is busy in hoisting bike rally and attending election rallies.Though for few days the consumers were relieved from the prolonged petrol crisis, the capital is yet again hit with massive petrol crisis.Internet connectivity failure has led to a transport fuel crisis in Tripura for the past few days, and the state government is reluctant to seek any intervention.The sources said that as the Internet connectivity is down, the IOCL officials are unable to get clearances online from their authorities in Guwahati. Most Indians favour Indira-Mujib accord: | AGARTALA, Feb 8 (TIWN / IANS) Most Indians want further strengthening of the India-Bangladesh ties and continuance of the provisions of the Indira-Mujib agreement, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said here on Monday, refuting the demand of VHP leader Praveen Togadia for modification in the 44-year-old accord. Vishwa Hindu Parishad's (VHP) international working president Togadia, while addressing a gathering here recently, demanded that the 1951 electoral rolls must be the base for identifying infiltrators. He said the VHP disapproves of 1971 as the cut-off year to categorise the Bangladeshi infiltrators as per the Indira-Mujib agreement. The Indira-Mujib agreement was signed on March 19, 1972, between the then Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, determining various issues of the two countries, including 1971 as the cut-off year to identify the Bangladeshi infiltrators/refugees to India."Most Indians and the government do not want any kind of modification or scrapping of Indira-Mujib accord. Bru refugee crisis: Even after 18 years, | AGARTALA, Feb 8 (TIWN): Since 18 years thousands of tribals who fled Mizoram following ethnic violence began living in seven camps in Tripura, and various initiatives were taken to help them to go back to their homes. Although with pressure from union and Tripura government, the Mizoram government decided to take back the tribal refugees in a phased manner but in the identification camp from previous year, hardly any bru refugee turned up for identification. The Reang tribals, who locally call themselves "Bru", have lived in makeshift camps in northern Tripura since October 1997 when they fled western Mizoram after the killing of a Mizo forest officer triggered ethnic violence. According to the reports, there are 5,286 tribal families comprising 31,223 men, women and children sheltered in seven camps made of bamboo and hemp in Kanchanpur and Panisagar sub-divisions under North Tripura district adjoining Mizoram. With a total population of around 1.1 million, Mizoram has 86,000 Reang tribals, according to the government of India's categorisation. Over two lakh Reang tribals also live in Tripura and other northeastern states.As part of rehabilitation package, centre has sanctioned Rs 7 crore as first instalment for resettling the Reang families said Vanlalmalsaw, adding each family will get Rs 85,000 other than free ration for one year. | 08-Feb-2016 |

People are angry over the poor quality work by NBCC. Uncertainty looms large over Indo-Bangla | AGARTALA, Feb 8 (TIWN): Although the BG conversion work in Tripura is almost completed and the passenger train service can start at any moment but no major progress is witnessed in the extension project of the Indo-Bangla rail link so far.Talking to TIWN correspondent a government high official said that centre has sanctioned money for acquiring land and for laying of five km long tracks on the Indian side. CM monitors work progress of State Unive | AGARTALA, Feb 7 (TIWN): Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Sunday monitored the work progress of the new building construction of MBB state University at MBB college premises. Chief Minister was accompanied by Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty, Chief Secretary Yash Pal Singh and others. The left front government in Tripura has decided to set up a ‘state university’ to improve the scope of higher education. The government plans to launch the university at Maharaja Bir Bikram College, which has a large campus, to encourage teaching environment in the capital city. To widen the higher education scope the state came up with this proposal of establishing this new state University other than already running Tripura Central University. MBB University would start functioning from current academic session (2016-17) in the MBB College premises, official sources said. Tripura yet to achieve 'load-shedding fr | AGARTALA, Feb 7 (TIWN): Although ONGC is so far able to supply required gas to run both the power plants of Palatana OTPC and NEEPCO for uninterrupted generation of power in the state but state is unable to meet the status of “load shedding Free Stateâ€.However, Monarchak is doing well as the ONGC is supplying gas as per the agreement but one unit of Palatana power project allegedly remains suspended due to shortage of adequate gas, according to the sources.ONGC is so far able to supply gas in full swing in order to operate the gas turbine of Monarchak and in the coming days with the development it will be able to gas to Palatana also to run the other unit of Palatana soon.The sources said that once the Sonamura GGS is ready to supply gas, the supply of gas to the power plant can be done without any interruption. Significant decline of Indian CTC blend | KAMALPUR, Feb 6 (TIWN): The days of terror, bloodshed and the resulting pandemonium whic are continuing since three decades, have almost destroyed the century-old tea industry of the state. The situation turned so grave that the kidnapping of tea estate officials and laborers by the insurgent groups like NLFT and ATTF have become very common here. Many officials and employees have simply denied work in the tea estates at that period. However, in recent years the situation has changed significantly and all the 58 tea gardens reached the optimum level of production of one crore kg of tea per year. According to the information of the Tea Board, the state put almost 6, 400 hectares of land under cultivation and the total garden area for cultivation remained 14, 000 hectares. The hike in the industry also secured fifth position of the state in tea production after Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Tripura’s 'Golden' era : Illegal | AGARTALA, Feb 6 (TIWN) : Although a small state, but power dept. is unable to tackle the increasing power theft in Tripura, especially in rural areas. Allegations are coming against a govt. school for using hook lines since a long time at Khowai. However, school authority has claimed that the hook line is not actually using by the school itself, but the RD Dept.’s engineers are fully involved in it, who had started the class-room building construction work in 2015.The school has been identified as Gayamfung High School at Kalyanpur, under Khowai Dist., where a construction work is going on under RMSA project. Presently the building construction work under RD Dept. for which atleast Rs. 34 lakhs was sanctioned in 2015, is under scanner. The construction work was started on June 26, 2015.Technical assistant (I/O) Amulya Debbarma was overall in-charge of the work under Rural Development Dept. However, the whole work has been running by using hook lines from the beginning. But surprisingly, power dept. has not interrupted in their work.Locals alleged that as it’s a tribal and interior area, so such incidents are very common at there. State will submit proposal to set up B.E | AGARTALA, Feb 6 (TIWN): Education minister Tapan Chakraborty on Friday confirmed that he will raise the issue to set up Bachelor of Education B.Ed and District Institute for Educational Training (DIET) College in all districts in the one day meeting on Teachers Training at Vigyan Bhavan of New Delhi on February 8. He is scheduled to participate in the national level meeting on Teachers Training at Vigyan Bhavan of New Delhi on February 8.It is to be mentioned here that Union HRD Minister has called the meeting to discuss the problem of teachers training all over the country.Concluding the meeting he will return on February 9, added Chakraborty.
