AGARTALA, Feb 26 (TIWN) : Tripura’s capital city is turning into gutter with its continuous increasing population, narrow roads and at the same time AMC’s inability to control the pollution of the city.

Dustbins are overflowing and garbage is found in every footsteps of Agartala city.

Hawkers with fruits, foods are fully occupying the footpaths and the rotten items from their shops not only increasing the pollution but bad smells have hit several areas of the city.

The Battala area, Durga Chowmuhani are the top most places for dirtiness among the town areas.

It’s to be mentioned here that AMC Mayor Prafullajit Sinha’s own area Shivnagar locality is also same.

People have to use handkerchiefs on their noses when they cross that area.

Mayor is often found in that area but he travels by Govt.’s AC car and closed windows.

Long queues of CPI-M candidates are also found before the elections, with red flags and also with slogans to make win Prafullajit Sinha, but after his massive winning in the last  Municipal election held in December 2016, nothing has changed.

However, the common people also are same. Although Municipal has given dustbins but they like to throw their home-garbage here and there.

Even the drains which are made for water flowing and liquids, are poured by plastic bags and everyday garbage of households.

The drains if were given cover, then the situation would be different, which is another loopholes by AMC which is initiating pollution and unhygienic condition in Agartala city.

However, before to see the dream of a “SMART CITY” few things would be followed by the govt to  make a better city than the present one by learning few ‘city-life-behaviour’ from big cities as Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and few places of Kolkata as : the housing society can appoint a garbage collector to carry out door-to-door collection.

The collected waste is then can be handed over to the municipal corporation’s garbage collection vehicles.

Strict rules in every housing complex is necessary.

So, unless and until the AMC would be strict enough to control the pollution, the city will never be changed and SMART city is a distant dream.
