Uncertainty looms large:  Tripura is yet to launch Internet bandwidth

AGARTALA, Feb 5 (TIWN): Tripura will be the third internet gateway after Mumbai and Chennai, which was scheduled to be inaugurated in February but even after passage of a week, authority is reluctant to take any initiative to launch the much talked project of Internet Bandwidth.The unwanted delay in the progressing of the internet bandwidth service is popping up several queries in the mind of the people.The laying of optical fibre cable in the Indian side to improve the internet connectivity in the entire NE states including Tripura is almost completed. The BSNL employees have already completed the work by January but the inauguration process is getting delayed due to some unknown reasons. It is to be mentioned here that The BSNL had inked an agreement with BSCCL to provide internet bandwidth.Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad laid the foundation stone for International Gateway during a programme in Agartala. The NE region including Tripura will get uninterrupted internet services as the connectivity from Cox’s Bazar will provide high speed internet connection.The cost of the project is Rs. 1.91 crore with operational expenditure annually to the tune of around Rs. 7.2 crore. The state will be connected with 10 Giga byte bandwidth of transmission cable in Bangladesh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi signed the bilateral agreement with Bangladesh to boost the telecom facilities in South East Asia on June 5.

The   agreement will be for four years and India will gain 10 Gbps (gigabits per second) bandwidth in the first year with a provision for this to go up to 40 Gbps per second in the subsequent years. India is going for purchasing this surplus unused bandwidth from Bangladesh to develop the IT industry in Northeast.

Agartala could emerge as the hub of the IT industry in Northeast India if the State Government moves fast enough to create necessary infrastructures. Tripura will get 10Gbps (Giga bits per second) Internet Band With from Bangladesh’s submarine cable for the up gradation of the internet services of the State.

As per the guideline, equipment which are used in setting up for international gateway submarine cable require to the supply to BSNL Tripura SSA at the earliest.

High bandwidth Internet is a must for survival of every sector of IT Industry as it needs to connect to worldwide over Internet 24x7 365 days a year.  Seamless internet connectivity, uninterrupted power is basic necessity for developing a successful IT Hub.

However, the unwanted delay in ensuing the internet bandwidth process has irked question from different of section of society. The unwanted delay in launching the internet bandwidth system is raising frequent question in mind of the people.
