AGARTALA, Feb 5 (TIWN): Just on the final day of nomination submission for the village committee election chaos marked the nomination process. Allegedly BJP brought a series of allegation against the ruling party that the BJP party candidate was attacked by the ruling party cadre at Kathalia area on Friday while submitting nomination.

It is alleged that on the last day of nomination for the Village committee election the ruling party cadres attacked the BJP candidate tending to create violence ahead of the election.

The BJP candidates also alleged that despite of being attacked by the ruling party cadre during filing nomination the police did not play any role rather they were silent.

Alleging negligence in role of police, BJP gheroued the Jatrapur police station and demanded to take immediate action against the accused.

Reportedly, Polls to 587 village committees in Tripura would be held on February 24, the state election commission announced recently. The village committees, falling in areas under the politically important Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), are equivalent to gram panchayats outside the council areas. State Election Commissioner G. Kameswara Rao notified to media that elections for the 4,597 seats would be held on February 24. Of the total seats, 4,018 are reserved for tribals, 180 for people from Scheduled Castes and 2,005 for women. Instead of Electronic Voting Machines, ballot boxes would be used for the polls. This is being done, according to the election laws of the TTAADC.
