AGARTALA, Feb 6 (TIWN) : NE state Tripura, which was once popular for its bamboo plantation, is loosing its glory day after day with the negligence of the state govt.
With this, the people who are engaged in bamboo handcraft works are suffering through poverty. As day after day bamboo made products’ exports are decreasing, so bamboo productions’ business has been almost lost.
TIWN has talked to such a person who once upon a time started his profession by making bamboo made productions, but presently he is suffering through high poverty. He demanded the help of the state govt. in this regard.
The name of the person is Dhirendra Sarkar, resident of Lankamura and since many years he is into the work. But till day they no support from the govt. has been done to him. His total income is around Rs.400/- only.
So, it can be mentioned here that Tripura which was curved out a name for itself in the field of Handicrafts is losing its traditional glory day after day. The gifted artisan could produce wonderful objects of craft from simple material like cane, bamboo and wood are suffering from poverty everyday. Their rare artistic skill has been streamlined in the manufacture of exquisite household pieces.
Tripura's unique topography and the gracious nature bestowed their choicest blessings on the heritary artisans of Tripura. But due to govt.’s negligence no progress Tripura is getting no progress in this particular field.
