Cabinet approves raising solar power to | AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, June 18 (TIWN): In a major decision to boost use of clean energy in India, the union cabinet on Wednesday decided to quintuple solar energy capacity under the National Solar Mission towards achieving 100,000 MW by 2022."In an important decision, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) decided that solar power capacity in the country is to go up five times to 1 lakh megawatt by 2022," Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters here while briefing them on the cabinet meeting. "This is a giant step and India will become the biggest producer of solar power in the world," he added.Describing how the ambitious project had elements like many solar projects and grid-connectivity for roof-top solar power, Prasad said an investment of Rs.600,000 crore is being envisaged till 2022.Northeast India's biggest and the first-of-its-kind 5MW capacity solar power plant in Tripura has begun commercial production from Monarchak under Sonamura sub division. The solar power plant was set up at a cost of Rs.40 crore. "Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd. (TSECL) is facing serious problem in getting power from the Palatana OTPC power plant as the plant is undergoing maintenance with the Unit-I shutdown and the Unit-II faced a breakdown", said TSECL Chairman & Managing Director (CMD) Shyamal K Roy on Monday. When contacted OTPC CMD Satyajit Ganguly agreeing to the fact said, “We have mobilized our experts to restore the Unit-II as soon as possible. I hope that we would be able to bring the situation under control very soon."TSECL CMD S K Roy said to TIWN, “We are supposed to get 90 MW of power from OTPC Palatana power plant as per the agreement, but due to some technical problems at the plant we are unable to bring the power from it.†Adding to that, Roy expressing displeasure over the interrupted power generation from the plant said, “This has caused a major loss for the TSECL because we are unable to meet the demand of the power across the state.â€However clarifying the remark of the TSECL CMD, OTPC CMD Satyajit Ganguly said to TIWN, “At present the Unit-II of the plant is undergoing maintenance as the unit was found tripped.†He also clarified, “When the unit tripped off it occurs some internal problems and it takes time to move inside as the temperature remains high.†“We are hopeful that the faults would be restored very soon,†adding Ganguly said, “The power from the plant augment shortfall not only in the state of Tripura but also in the North Eastern Region despite all odds". | 15-Jun-2015 |
Tripura High Court orders State Govt int | AGARTALA, June 16 (TIWN): Tripura High Court on Monday in it its interim order had asked the Tripura Left front Government to place report of its intervention on the death of 96 people due to malaria epidemic here in the state. The court hearing the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) had asked the State Secretary for health and family welfare M Nagaraju to submit the affidavit report by June 29, 2015.Talking to TIWN on Monday in this regard lawyer Mongal Debbarma said, “The court on Monday expressing displeasure over the death of at least 96 due to malaria epidemic here at the state as stated by the state government had asked the state health and family welfare department to table a report to HC on its intervention on malaria death by June 29.â€Adding to that Debbarma said, “A National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme team arriving here in the state’s malaria affected areas has found that there is a lack of sufficient health workers comprising of Asha workers, MPWs and others.â€The team has also found that there are lack of equipments, medicines and others which was supposed to contain the malaria and its deaths. Besides, the DDT has not been sprayed in time, Debbarma told to TIWN.Briefing the interim order of the High Court Debbarma further added, “The department on its statement had also mentioned that the departmental action has been taken against a section of health workers due to their duty negligence, following which the HC on Monday hearing the PIL had asked the secretary of H&FW department to submit a report before the court mention its action so far and the cause of the death of 96 villagers.†| 15-Jun-2015 |
