Militancy still a threat,says Chief Minister

AGARTALA, June 18 (TIWN): Chief Minister Manik Sarkar expressed disappointment over the role of police and security forces for their failure in curving the threat of extremism from the state.

 Addressing the review meeting at secretariat building on Wednesday, CM Manik Sarkar called for strengthening the security force along the Indo-bangla border.

He further said that, though now there is not much torches of extremist in the state but it has not completely vanished away from the state and the police and security force need to be much alert.

He further stressed on the issue that, initiatives to be taken to provide more employment opportunity along the indo-bangla border.

He asked the concerned authority to look into matter of what more employment schemes can be provided for the people apart from MGNREGA employment scheme. It should be kept in notice that by no-chance the extremist can provoke the people to join in extremism and in this regard Chief Minister Manik sarkar has asked the police and the security force to take the necessary steps for curving the Extremism.

Allegedly, the ‘extremists’ activities have started surfacing again in Tripura, reminding the militant violence and deadly ethnic conflicts and destruction of peaceful co-existence between tribal and non-tribal people, with abduction of villagers and construction workers engaged in border fencing work in demand of subscription.

Arrangements should be made to take the initiatives of providing rehabilitation measures for the people who is still now connected with the group of extremism, said CM Manik Sarkar.

Stressing on the issue of border fencing, CM Manik Sarkar also stated that border fencing is not yet complete in different parts of the state due to some controversial issues but for the safeguard of the people the work of border fencing would be started soon in the leftover areas.

He further urged to police and security force to work in collaboration with the each other for curving the crime of extremism from the state for the safety of the dwellers of the state.
