AGARTALA, June 17 (TIWN): The Tripura State Minister for Education Tapan Chakroborty on Tuesday welcoming the interim order of the Tripura High Court said, “The state government had already alerted the govt. school teachers, students and the guardians to restrict the private tuition practice.” Chakroborty was talking to the reporters here at the civil secretariat on Tuesday.

Chakroborty said, “As compared to the previous year the tendency of private tuition has come down this year.” Adding to that Minister said that on June 15 he held a meeting with the department officials with an aim to find out the status of the private practices.

He also said, “As a common mass I can only say that there is an act in the nation and I think every central acts, rules, guidelines and regulations should not be violated because violating the rules and acts is breaking the entire system of the nation.”

The Tripura High Court recently this month hearing the suo moto case has issued a notice to the government over the growing tendency of private tuition classes in government schools and colleges. The court served a notice to the chief secretary and the secretary of education department and 16 Principals of private schools where teachers were allegedly engaged in private tuition, seeking their reply by July 31.

The court observed that education in both government and non-government schools has been suffering because of private tuition by the teachers.

However, but it is worthy to mention here that despite having a ban on private tuition by the government school teachers, the tendency has taken a toll with no departmental action against the violators.

According to the educationalists because of private tuition, meritorious poor students have been deprived of getting proper learning and guidance in the schools. However, the same has also been added by the Minister on Tuesday.

The court asked the state government to file an affidavit stating what steps had the government taken against teachers after putting ban on private tuitions besides directing Principals of 16 private schools to file affidavits mentioning its stand on the issue.

Experts say, “The child is being re-tutored during tuition and since the tuition focuses on selective syllabi, development of wholesome knowledge is not achieved. Tuition centres have become mark or grade generating factories where the student resorts to ‘reading, cramming and scoring.”

Though of course, the interim order of the HC has irked a section of school teachers and the guardians here in Tripura recently. The negligence role of the state government here has led a large number of teachers and the guardians dependent on private tuitions.
