AGARTALA, June 16 (TIWN): The so called ‘ambitious’ project of the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd. (TSECL) has turned bleak as the city commuters still at high risk due to the deplorable condition of the over head power line junk at the heart of the Tripura’s capital Agartala.

On yet another incident occurred on Monday the locals and the pedestrians had narrowly escaped from a very high risk after an electric pole at Agartala Advisor Chowmuhni demolished from its base got collapsed due to incessant rain.

A section of local commuters on Monday claimed, “Such an incident often takes place at every nook and corner of the capital city where the electric poles were found in deplorable conditions with a massive congestion of electric wires overhead that stands as a very high risk for us.” Car driver who was standing beside the pole parking his car at a stone throwing distance from the pole said, “Today I was very fortunate that I was not hit by the pole which consisted of junk of electric wires.”

However it is to be mentioned here that most of the electric poles here at the capital city Agartala are in deplorable condition with its base under the mud got crack and stands as a very high risk for the city dwellers. The TSECL has got any alternative to the overhead power line yet today even after it had announced for the ambitious project for the capital.

According to the locals of several areas of the state capital, despite they had received several complaints the TSECL on its negligence role backtracked from replacing those electric poles, as a result the commuters and others are at very high risk as those poles are in a chance to demolish and fall in the streets at anytime. The incident occurred on Monday has cited a very good witness to the problems and the risks of the city dwellers.

They also claimed, “If the TSECL authority would have worked fast in progress for laying the underground power cable line than today the city dwellers would be saved from the risk of the deplorable condition of the electric poles with its overhead wires.”

However, it is worthy to mention here that during the year 2014, TSECL Chairman and Managing Director Shymal Kumar Roy informed that the work has already launched and laying of cable is being completed in 50km stretch in the first phase.

He said Rs. 100 crore has been earmarked for the first phase work. But yet today people see no functioning of the power cable line. Officials in the TSECL earlier said the laying work is going on at different locations of the city. Digging of 1.2m height is taking place for placing high intensity and low intensity cables.

But interestingly on Monday talking to TIWN Roy said, “Tender has been floored and the work of laying the underground power line would be kicked off very soon once the agency is readied.” Officials and engineers of the TSECL are taking utmost care to avoid damage of underground gas distribution, telephone and water supply lines during the work. The project would require two years to complete to make Agartala first city in northeast India to have the facility.

But what makes the story interesting is that yet today despite taking up such an ambitious project the TSECL had failed to respite to the risk of the city dwellers.
