Tripura govt. plans to purchase two buse | AGARTALA, June 4 (TIWN): Agreeing to ply direct bus from Agartala to Kolkata via Bangladesh capital Dhaka Tripura government planned to purchase two air-conditioned buses. State Transport department asked Tripura Road Transport Corporation, govt. undertaking and state urban department to purchase the two buses, said Minister Manik Dey on Wednesday.However, Dey informed that the fare charge has not yet been fixed but a high level meeting at Dhaka would finalize it soon.According to the West Bengal Transport Department cost of one ‘Volvo’ 45-seater air-conditioned bus is Rs. 80 lakhs. Following which the state govt. has planned to buy at least two air-conditioned buses, said official. The officials also said that there are no spare parts for ‘Volvo’ bus here in Tripura to ensure comfortable journey for the passengers and ensuring no technical fault the state govt. here has planned to buy other air-conditioned buses instead ‘Volvo’.Besides, on Wednesday talking to the reporters here at the civil secretariat Minister Manik Dey said, “After talking to the ‘Volvo’ company if they can open their stores in Tripura the state govt. would take a final decision whether ‘Volvo’ bus would be purchased or not.†Adding to that Minister said, but the govt. has decided to purchase other air-conditioned buses.In regard of the fare charge Dey infirmed, “Fare charge has not yet been decided, but a final decision would be taken very soon.†| 03-Jun-2015 |

Trial run of historic bus journey on Aga | AGARTALA, June 3 (TIWN): Agreeing to ply Agartala-Dhaka-Kolkata direct bus service and getting green signal from the Govt. of India recently, government of Tripura started its first direct ‘Moitree’ bus service via neighbouring country Bangladesh capital Dhaka on Wednesday. The bus started from Agartala International Bus Terminus, TRTC Complex on 6:00 AM. The bus carrying 8 members’ team under the leadership of State Transport Secretary Samarjit Bhowmik started on June 3, 6:00 AM. According to the state transport department, official during the evening hours the bus would cross the Dhaka-Kolkata border; and at around 10:00 PM the bus would reach Kolkata Salt Lake. Later on June 4rth, the Agartala bus would return to Dhaka and after a night hold on the very day at Dhaka carrying all the 8 members’ team of Transport department here, the bus would return to Agartala on June 5. The 8 members’ team under the leadership of Bhowmik, along with SP Special Branch Arindam Nath, Tripura Urban Transport Corporation (TUTC) Managing Director Ratan Biswas including other two drivers and mechanics. Alongwith the Tripura ‘Moitree’ bus, Kolkata ‘Volvo’ bus which reached here at Agartala on June 2 as part of the trial run, also moved to return back to Kolkata via Dhaka. Reduce in percentage rate for Madhyamik | AGARTALA, June 3 (TIWN): The Madhyamik Examination 2015 results has brought into limelight the poor “educational standards†of the state. The results, declared by Tripura Board of Secondary Education (TBSE) president Mihir Deb this morning shown the overall pass percentage very poor (66.41 percent) which broke the record of the last year. The number of students appeared in Madhyamik Examination this year were 47176. Among them 4 students were expelled during the examination time. 2 students had appeared for their Madarasa examinations, whether only 1 student cleared the exam. A total of 923 schools across the state had participated in the examinations this year amongst which 180 from west district, 110 from Gomati district and the rest from other districts of the state. Total number of examination centres rested at 75, whereas total number of examination venues were 138.Though Government claims that Tripura attained high in literacy rate, but the poor percentage shows the reality. While imparting teaching in the class room, one-to-one interaction between the teacher and the student has to be ensured for the sake of evaluation of child’s understanding of the lesson taught. TBSE declares 2015 class-10 results : G | AGARTALA, June 3 (TIWN): Tripura Board of Secondary Examination (TBSE) has declared the results for Madhyamik, Madrasa Madyamik and Madrasa Alim examinations on Wednesday 9:00 AM. Report says, Gomati district of Tripura this year have secured the highest percentage with 76.79 percent while the West District of the state is distant to second position with 70.99 per cent. Ambika Das Gupta of Agartala Shishu Bihar School has topped this year with aggregate marks of 669. After the declaration of the result Ambika’s father said to TIWN, “Ambika had secured 95.5 per cent, with the letter marks in every subjects.†Asked about the reason behind Ambika’s success her father said, “With a total of 7 home teachers Ambika succeed scoring well in Madhyamik Examinations this year.†He also said that the main reason of her success is her mother who guided her well from class 1. Ambika studied at Udaipur English Medium School from class 1 to class 6 and later she took admission in Agartala Shishu Bihar School and thus her journey starts there from class 7, said Ambika’s father. A total of five students from Agartala Shishu Bihar School have positioned this year in the Madhyamik examinations with 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 9th.  Bangladesh Cabinet on May 25 ratified the LBA protocol. Taking part in the discussion, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina recalled how India stood by Bangladesh during the 1971 Liberation War.

“India has always stood by Bangladesh in times of need,†she said. Leader of the Opposition Raushon Ershad and 18 other MPs took part in a discussion on the motion.

Kolkata-Agartala trial bus arrives in Tr | AGARTALA, June 2 (TIWN): Kolkata-Dhaka-Agartala bus arrived here on Tuesday as part of the trial run carrying the officials of West Bengal Government and Bangladesh Government officials. The 45-seated air-conditioned Volvo bus alongwith Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) Shyamali bus first arrived at Agartala Akhaura Check Post and later the two arrived at Agartala International Bus Terminus of Tripura Road Transport Corporation (TRTC). Bus will return from Agartala on June 3 morning and reach Kolkata on the same day. The total travel time is around of 14 to 16 hours including formalities at the immigration centers. Carrying 5 members’ delegation from West Bengal and 7 members’ delegation from Bangladesh the two buses arrived here on June 2. The 5 members from West Bengal comprised of Alapan Bandyopadhyay, IAS, Principal Secretary, Transport Department (West Bengal), Akhil Roy, IPS, IG (IB-Border) Intelligence Branch, West Bengal, Ajoy Kumar Ghosh, WBCS (Exe.), OSD and Ex-Officio Deputy secretary along with others. The 7 members delegation from Bangladesh comprises of Abdur Rouf Khan, Joint Secretary, Road Transport and Highway Division (Bangladesh), Munshi Iqbal Hossain, Director (Finance and Accounts), Joint Secretary, BRTC, A K M Mofizul Haque, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Shipping, along with other delegations. However, on behalf of the Govt. of Tripura DM (West) along with AMC Mayor Dr. Prafullajit Sinha and others remained present at Akhaura Check post to receive delegations who arrived here by the Kolkata-Dhaka-Agartala trial run bus. Teesta important, but LBA to open fresh | KOLKATA / AGARTALA, June 2 (TIWN): While the contentious Teesta river water sharing pact needs to be thrashed out in the long term for the sake of better India-Bangladesh bilateral relations, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's impending two-day visit to Dhaka carries huge prospects of future cooperation, especially in the backdrop of the long-awaited Land Boundary Agreement (LBA) to be inked, experts here say.With the Teesta accord, which Bangladesh considers very important, not on the agenda, diplomatic experts are banking on the land swap deal - set to be concluded on June 6 on day one of Modi's visit - as a "significant chapter" in India-Bangladesh relations, which could in turn pave the way for fresh openings in bilateral ties. The historic LBA provides for transfer of 111 adversely held enclaves with a total area of 17,160.63 acres to Bangladesh, while Dhaka is to transfer 51 such enclaves with an area of 7,110.02 acres to India. Over 51,000 people reside in these enclaves and are now virtually stateless. "The Teesta accord is very important for Bangladesh. But the successful completion of the LBA will improve prospects for fresh openings and herald more close cooperation, and issues like the Teesta deal will seem feasible," Om Prakash Mishra, professor of international relations at Jadavpur University, told this correspendant. "Flagging off the Shillong-Dhaka via Guwahati and Kolkata-Dhaka via Agartala bus services, dialogue on a train service between Khulna and Kolkata and negotiations for a coastal shipping agreement enabling smaller vessels to go to Bangladesh are expected to strengthen connectivity and help in the development of the country's north east," Sikri told reporters. | 02-Jun-2015 |

State govt. all set to start its first ever bus service from Agartala to reach Kolkata via neighbouring country Bangladesh’s capital city Dhaka. The bus would start on 6:00 AM from Agartala, said Transport Minister Manik Dey on Monday.“Inaugural bus carrying 8 members’ team under the leadership of State Transport Secretary Samarjit Bhowmik would start from Agartala on June 3 at 6:00 AM,†Dey told to reporters here at the civil Secretariat on Monday. Dey said that, later during the evening hours the bus would cross the Dhaka-Kolkata border and at around 10:00 PM the bus would reach Kolkata Salt Lake. Modi's diplomacy in action : Trial run o | AGARTALA, June 1 (TIWN): A trial run of the Kolkata-Agartala direct bus service via Dhaka has begun on Monday. The bus has departed from Kolkata and will cross over to Bangladesh later in the day and travel through the country and enter Tripura through the Akhaura check post and arrive at Agartala International Bus Terminus of Tripura Road Transport Corporation (TRTC) at around 11 am on Tuesday.The bus will return from Agartala on June 3 in the morning and reach Kolkata on the same day. The total travel time is around 14 to 16 hours including formalities at the immigration centers. Talking to TIWN, Transport Secretary, Samarjit Bhowmik said that the bus had departed from Kolkata at 12.00 in the afternoon and after passing the West Bengal Petrapol and Bangladesh Benapol landport, the bus will travel through Puturiabari-Manikbari-Manikganj and reach Dhaka in the evening.Secretary Bhowmik further said that a 10 member delegation team headed by Alapan Bandopadhaya will hold talks during the staying at Dhaka. The Chairman of AAI, R.K. Srivastava during his recent May 29 visit to the state and after meeting Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, has said that the Agartala airport to be upgraded into international standards soon. Whereas, the transport department officials of the state alongwith Minister Manik Dey expressing displeasure over the delay of the work urged the AAI to undertake the project work soon. State Transport Secretary Samarjit Bhowmik while talking to TIWN said, “Inspite of providing them with sufficient land the AAI had unnecessarily delayed the work.†Adding to that he said that a total of 72 acres of land had already been acquired by the state government and was handed over to AAI for expansion of the runway. But what makes it interesting is that in spite of giving them sufficient land as was demanded for the construction of the runway the AAI is again demanding for another additional land. ONGC successfully completes hydro-fractu | AGARTALA, June 1 (TIWN): With an aim to set up first of its kind in the Left ruled Tripura Rs 5,000-crore urea plant at Khobal in Unakoti district, Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Ltd. (ONGC) Asset, had successfully carried hydro-fracturing at Khubal in Unakoti district to know the actual gas reserve. Talking to TIWN on Monday ONGC Director Onshore V. P. Mahawar informed that so far the ONGC Tripura Asset had carried hydro-fracturing in at least three places at Khubal. Mahawar said, “The hydro-fracturing had been conducted on three old wells at the area while the ONGC is looking forward to drill another two well at Manu area to ensure gas reserves.†ONGC would now start the activation process at the three hydro-fractured wells at Khubal to ensure enough quality gas which would be piped to the urea plant once it is set up, said Mahawar. Asked about the potentiality target, Mahawar said, “ONGC targets its potentitaliaty of at least 2.3 Metric Ton of gas but the urea plant would be set up with a potentiality of around 1.3 MT of gas.†Adding to that he also said that ONGC would have to ensure availability of gas for the plant for at least 15 years. It is worthy to mention here that the Tripura unit of ONGC has intensified exploration to create a recoverable reserve of gas for at least 15 years. “We have intensified our exploration drive in Tripura to create a huge recoverable reserve of gas to continue the supply to the existing power plants in Tripura along with others coming up soon,†official said. | 01-Jun-2015 |
