AGARTALA, June 17 (TIWN): Overflow of drain water during the Rainy Season is very obvious, says Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Prafullajit Sinha on Wednesday.

Talking to TIWN Agartala Municipal Corporation Mayor Prafullajit Sinha said that there is not a single place in the country where there is no overflow of drain water during the Rainy Season. Adding to it, He said it is very obvious that people faces

problems with the clog of water on the road and overflow of drain water but it also would be kept in notice that how long the drain water clogs on the road.

Talking tall Mayor Sinha said that the drain water clogs on the road for maximum 50 minutes, as by that time the concern department gets set to pump out the clog water as soon as possible.

He further said that to renovate the wrenched drainage system in the capital of Tripura, one year back the department has hired an agency but due to lack of fund the renovation work has to be stopped. When asked about the deplorable drainage

system of Bidurkorta Choumuhani AMC Mayor Prafullajit Sinha said that 1 year back the concern department has hired an agency but due to lack of fund the work could not progress.

Regretting about the situation, Mayor Sinha blamed that the Central Government was supposed to give Rs. 200 crore of funds which the concern department would have utilized to renovate the drainage system in the Capital of Tripura.

Adding to this, appreciating the initiatives of the Ruling Government Mayor Sinha said that this year in the month of March the State Government has allotted Rs. 50 crore to renovate the wrench drainage system. He further said that though there was no such schedule to allot Rs. 50 crore to the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC), the Ruling Government allotted the fund to continue the renovation work.

Where the Central Government was supposed to allot Rs. 200 crore of funds, they have allotted Rs. 70 crore to the concern department, said Mayor Sinha.

When asked about the miserable drainage system which comes under the AMC area, Mayor Sinha came up with the same excuse that the work could not progress due to lack of fund.

Detailing about the pumping of water in the capital, He said that the capital has 12 pumping machines from Howrah River to Katakhal which is used to pump out the drain water. Every week the department  pump out the drain water and clean the drains of the capital.

Interestingly, most of the drains of the capital are dumped with garbage which leads to blockage of dirty water making the surrounding smelly. Moreover, it invites various waterborne diseases to spread in this area. Also in some parts of the city during the rainy season the drain water enters the shops and nearby houses. This situation also hampers the businesses which are set in the Orient Chowmuhani, Sakuntala road, Netaji Chowmuhani, Ramnagar, Joynagar, Krishnanagar, including many other areas. Now the question arise that if the AMC is so concern about the poor drainage system in the capital then why the common people are facing such problem during the Rainy Season.
