Indo-Bangla railway extension project ai | AGARTALA, June 28 (TIWN): A 10 members’ delegation team from the Union Ministry of Railways arrived here at the state on Saturday with an aim to undertake a joint land survey for the India-Bangladesh railways extension project in wake of the construction work to kick start soon and is expected to be commissioned by 2017. Being contacted by the Additional Transport Secretary, he confirmed the report of their arrival here on Saturday at around 3:00 PM. The team comprising of the Chief Engineer of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) Harpal Singh, IRCON and Container Corporation of India Ltd (CCIL) officials scheduled earlier had visited here at Agartala with an aim to conduct a joint survey of the land stretching 5 km in the Indian side and is expected to conduct a survey to the rest 10 km from the Bangladesh side. The recently held NITI Aayog meeting at New Delhi had decided that amongst the 5 km from the Indian part around 2.5 km stretched rail track would be laid overhead from the Badharghat rail station and the rest 2.5 km track would be laid in land.The team on Saturday inspected the Agartala Badharghat rail station and is expected to move to the rest part of the state where the tracks would laid after the land acquisition.The decision to have 2.5 km overhead rail track is expected to reduce the estimated expenditure for land acquisition to connect Agartala railway station with Bangladesh’s Gangasagar railway station. | 28-Jun-2015 |
NFR Chief Engineer Harpal Singh meets Mi | AGARTALA, June 28 (TIWN): North East Frontier Railway (NFR) Chief Engineer Harpal Singh on Saturday arriving here at the state with the 10 members’ delegation team comprising of RCON and Container Corporation of India Ltd (CCIL) officials had held a meeting with the state Minister for Transport Manik Dey at the secretariat after inspecting the site for the India-Bangladesh railway extension project. High turnout 83% in Tripura assembly by- | AGARTALA, June 27 (TIWN / IANS) Despite inclement weather, over 83 percent of the 92,146 voters on Saturday cast their vote in the by-elections to two assembly constituencies in Tripura, officials said.The balloting, which started at 8 a.m., in Pratapgarh and Surma assembly segments was absolutely peaceful.This is for the first time candidates' photographs have been displayed in Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) to avoid confusion among the voters."Over 83 percent voters have cast their ballot in the by-election of Pratapgarh and Surma. The election was absolutely peaceful and smooth," additional chief electoral officer Debashish Modak told IANS."There was no report of any incident, except malfunctioning of two EVMs, reported from the two seats," Modak said.He said there was no complaint of electoral misconduct raised by any political party."Voters, including women, were seen queuing up to exercise their franchise in most of the 115 polling stations in both assembly constituencies," the official said.Modak said : "Central para-military force and Tripura State Rifles personnel were deployed for smooth polling."Inspector general of police (police control) Nepal Das told IANS that no untoward incident was reported during the polling.According to the officials, 50,004 voters in Pratapgarh and 42,142 in Surma assembly constituencies were eligible to cast their votes to choose their representative from the nine candidates in the fray. Tripura goes for poll to decide fate of | AGARTALA, June 27 (TIWN): With a total of 92, 146 voters the 13-Pratapgarh constituency and the 46-Surma constituency on Saturday go for poll to decide the fate of the Tripura by-election aspirants. For the first of its kind from this year the candidates' images are displayed on the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). However, four candidates from Congress, CPM and BJP are contesting for Surma while five candidates, including two independents, are fighting for Pratapgarh.As many as 50,004 voters, of which 24,492 are women, goes for exercising their franchise in 13-Pratapgarh SC reserved constituency while 42,142 voters, including 20,541 women, goes to cast vote in 46-Surma SC reserve assembly constituency on Saturday. The voting kicked off from 8:00 AM and would continue till 5:00 PM. Presiding Officers accused for acting ro | AGARTALA, June 27 (TIWN): Leaving no stone unturned the presiding officers on yet another poll here in Tripura have been accused for acting rough with a section of media persons on Saturday at 13-Pratapgarh constituency 26 number of booth. It was alleged that the concerned security forces acting on behest of the presiding officers at the polling booths managed to restrict media persons from covering the by-election voting at the constituency despite having a valid pass of the election commission. Tripura HC proves irregularity in State | AGARTALA, June 27 (TIWN): On yet another major embarrassment to the state medical education, the Tripura High Court on Friday proved the irregularities at the state medical counseling board. The court on its verdict announced on Friday had asked the Medical Entrance Board and the counseling board to vacate the most preference General Surgery SC seat and replace Dr. Indrajit Manushya Das with Dr. Bidhan Bhowmik. Bhowmik filed a case with the HC against the board over depriving him from the counseling for the seat under SC category and cancel Dr. Shimul Sarkar’s seat under Anesthesiology. Talking to TIWN in this regard Advocate Arun Kanti Bhowmik said, “The HC on its verdict on Friday under the division bench of Chief Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice S C Das had ordered the medical entrance board of the state to replace Dr. Indrajit Manushya Das with Dr. Bidhan Bhowmik under the SC category General Surgery seat and Das to Anesthesiology seat under SC category.â€Adding to that advocate A K Bhowmik said, “Dr. Bidhan Bhowmik had filed a case with the HC against the board for depriving him from the SC category General Surgery seat.†Bhowmik who secured the 1st position under the SC category during the medical entrance examination conducted by the state medical board was admitted to Ophthalmology department. Tripura gets ready for by-election, EVMs | AGARTALA, June 26 (TIWN): Preparations are on a peak for the by-election in Tripura Pratapgarh and Surma constituencies slated to be held on June 27, Saturday. The Central Paramilitary Forces had already arrived here at the state and has been deployed across the state to conduct free and fare elections on the two constituencies. The voting would kick start from 8:00 AM till 5:00 PM on Saturday. However, the Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) on Friday were carried to the respective polling stations amidst the tight security of the CPMFs, BSFs, TSRs and the Tripura Police.After the scrutinisation of the EVMs those were shifted to the respective polling booths from the strong room at Agartala Umakanta School. Tripura to go for by-elections poll on Saturday, in 62 polling stations at Pratapgarh constituency and another 54 polling stations in Surma constituency. Amongst the total of 92, 146 voters, 50004 are from Pratapgarh constituency and 42142 voters are from Surma constituency. Just after the serious controversy erupted on its second day a high level meeting was held chaired by ADM Sepahijala D. K. Chakma who is also the Chairman of the border haat committee, taking a stock of the situation asked the concerned security forces and the custom authorities for their cooperation towards the local in order to run the haat peacefully with no further disturbances. However under the strict vigilance of the ADM D. K.
