AGARTALA, June 17 (TIWN): After meeting with President Pranab Mukharjee the Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) delegates on Wednesday have staged a ‘dharna’ at New Delhi Jantar Mantar voicing against the Left’s misrule in the land-locked Tripura and reiterating its demand to conduct CBI probe to the chit fund burgle in Tripura. However, according to the report placed by a correspondent from Delhi, President Pranab Mukherjee’s daughter Sharmistha Mukherjee had also joined the dharna on Wednesday.

Demanding a CBI probe into the siphoning off of government funds and accusing the Left Front of misrule in Tripura, the Congress on Wednesday has hit the Delhi Jantar Mantar. The dharna has come after the congress met with President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday at Rashtrapati Bhawan.

The correspondent source from Delhi on Wednesday informed that voicing against the misrule of the Left front government in Tripura the Sudip team had slammed CPI-M and its Left front government and slogged that Despite so many agitations in Tripura against the Left Front government, the state government's gross misrule, scams of hundreds of crores, siphoning off of central funds and other irregularities continue.

During the dharna PCC President Birajit Sinha claimed that crores of money was burgled in Tripura under the regime of Manik Sarkar. The poor people of the state were deprived at large from getting the refundable money looted by the Non-banking financial companies (NBFCs), the source informed.

Hoping that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe can only unearth the scams, the congress on Wednesday has demanded the central government to take an initiative probing CBI to the chit fund scam took place in the Left ruled Tripura in the last few years.

The congress after several persuasions hitting the Jantar Mantar claimed that 142 chit fund organisations and fake Non Banking Financial Companies (NBFC) illegally collected about Rs.1,172 crore from 14 lakh depositors because the state government turned a blind eye to it. It is worthy to mention here that earlier on Tuesday holding a press conference at New Delhi AICC Bhawan, CLP leader Sudip Roy Barman claimed, “Despite urging for the CBI probe to the scams here in Tripura several times the BJP government at the center had turned deaf to it.”

AICC General Secretary V Narayanswami at Delhi slamming the Left rule in Tripura claimed, “The only reason behind not approving CBI probe on Tripura chit fund scam is because the BJP Government wants to save CPI-M.”

However, the congress as part of their programme schedule has met President on Tuesday seeking his intervention for CBI probe into the Non Banking Financial Companies scam in Tripura. The Congress demanded immediate arrest of a section of Tripura ministers who had alleged links with the chit fund companies along with proprietors of these companies.

The Sudip team pressed the President to make necessary initiatives to return the deposited money of the chit fund victims at the earliest. The Congress delegation came to Pranab Mukherjee after getting no response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Besides, according to the source from Delhi the delegation led by CLP Sudip Roy Barman on Monday submitted a memorandum to All India Congress Committee (AICC) supremo Sonia Gandhi centering the same issue. After a long conversation, Sonia Gandhi assured them to look into the matter with due concern.
