Modi arrives in Bangladesh : Kolkata-Dh | AGARTALA / DHAKA, June 6 (TIWN): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived here on Saturday on a two-day "historic" visit to Bangladesh. Modi, who arrived at Dhaka's Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in a special Indian Air Force (IAF) aircraft, Rajdoot, was received, in a break from protocol, by his Bangladeshi counterpart, Sheikh Hasina. He was accorded a ceremonial welcome, after which he inspectd a guard of honour.Modi is scheduled to hold talks with Sheikh Hasina and ink several agreements, especially in the field of connectivity and trade.West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, who is a part of the Indian prime minister's delegation, had reached Dhaka on Friday.With the land swap agreement as the centerpiece, Prime Minister Narendra Modi left on Saturday on a two-day "historic" visit to Bangladesh where he will hold talks with his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina and ink several agreements, especially in the field of connectivity and trade.Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina received her Indian counterpart at the VVIP tarmac of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 10:15am.This visit, first to Bangladesh by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, reflects the importance attached by India to the bilateral relationship. PM Modi to inaugurate Tripura 2nd border | AGARTALA, June 6 (TIWN): The 2nd ‘border haat’ (market) along with the India-Bangladesh border at Tripura Kamalasagar, under Sepahijala District would be formally inaugurated on June 6 by Prime Minister Nardenra Modi in presence of his Bangladesh counterpart Sheikh Hasina to boost trade in local produce of areas on the two sides along the international boundary, said a highly placed official source of state Industry and Commerce department to TIWN on Friday. The 'haat' would be jointly inaugurated by both Prime Ministers via video conferencing from Dhaka.After its formal inauguration the haat would be opened from June 11, but before that another high level meeting would be held among the officials of both the country.The official said no local programme would be arranged on June 6 at Kamalasagar as PM Modi and Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina would formally inaugurate it from Dhaka. They will jointly inaugurate a border 'haat' (market) at Kamalasagar in Tripura's Sipahijala district, which borders Brahmanbaria district of Bangladesh. 30% IPS Officers Ignore Property Disclos | AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, June 5 (TIWN): As per MHA (Ministry of Home Affairs) released data, More than 30% officers of Indian Police Service (IPS) and about 15% officers of Indian Administrative Service (IAS) have not disclosed details of their immovable property for the year 2014, according to government data.The All-India Service (Conduct) rules, 1968, require officers to disclose these details when they join service and submit an annual property statement—listing properties and shares. Officers who do not submit property returns in time will be “denied vigilance clearance†and will not be considered for promotion and empanelment (put on a short-list) for senior posts in Government of India, said a June 2012 home-ministry circular. Property declarations bring transparency, improves public confidence in the administration and ensures integrity of subordinates, said many officers. An officer who does not declare assets is in no position to ask subordinates to do so, out of fear that their own illegal assets will be exposed, said 1981-batch Karnataka cadre IAS officer M N Vijaykumar, who retired in April 2015. But with no action taken against those who default, more officers default, retired IPS officers told IndiaSpend. The home ministry can order departmental inquiries against defaulters or those who file wrong information, but not many such cases have been launched, said former Maharashtra Director General of Police Rahul Gopal.Tripura's top IPS defaulters list headed by DGP K.Nagraj, who also was charge-sheeted by CBI in 2007 for misappropriation of assets case in Hyderabad. Manik excluded from witnessing the histo | AGARTALA, June 5 (TIWN): Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar was left out from the list of dignitaries to witness the Modi-Hasina joint flagging off event of the Kolkata- Dhaka- Agartala bus service tomorrow in Dhaka. The chief minister of the only left ruled state of the country was not invited to witness the event reportedly at the behest of West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Supremo Mamata Banerjee. The resolution of the 41-year-old land boundary problem between India and Bangladesh is seen as a landmark achievement of the Modi Government. Modi’s submission to Mamata’s demand was in line with his effort to pacify Mamta Banerjee to sign the Teesta water sharing deal alongwith Bangladesh feel the political analyst here. Though the resolution of the 41 year long dispute was connected to Assam, Tripura and West Bengal, the chief minister of only West Bengal was invited to attend the historic event of exchange of the instrument ratifying the Land Boundary Agreement. Union Govt. to take tough line against m | NEW DELHI / AGARTALA, June 4 (TIWN): Even as at least 20 soldiers of the Indian Army's Dogra Regiment were killed by militants near Imphal in Manipur on Thursday, Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju has said that the government will not enter into peace talks with any emerging militant outfits in the northeastern states.Rijiju said Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government had decided to take a "tough line" against the militants, adding that the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) will stay in the northeastern states, other than in Tripura, where the law was repealed on May 27 by the state government after being in force for 18 years."The current situation in Tripura cannot be compared to other states of the northeast region. We are aware of every minor and major development happening in the north-east states," Rijiju told at his North Block office. On Thursday morning, suspected militants of Manipur-based United National Liberation Front (UNLF) killed 20 soldiers on patrol in the Chandel district.Talking on AFSPA in the north-eastern states, Rijiju said that the government was monitoring the ground situation in Tripura since they came to power last year and was satisfied by the improvement of the security situation in the state. Tripura to ply Agartala-Dhaka-Kolkata d | AGARTALA, June 4 (TIWN): Direct bus trial run of Agartala-Dhaka- Kolkata and vice versa to end on June 5, after the Agartala bus which started on June 3 for Kolkata returns back to Tripura’s capital town. Prime Minister of India and Bangladesh Modi-Hasina are scheduled to flag off the direct bus service between Kolkata and Agartala via Dhaka on June 6. According to the officials of the state transport department Tripura, govt. has planned to ply the bus twice in a week whereas Kolkata would ply four days a week. Besides, the custom immigration duty hours along Agartala, Akhaura– Benapole from 6:00 AM till 6:00 PM has burdened Tripura govt. to ply its bus twice a week. Tripura would start its bus from Agartala at 4:00 PM twice a week whereas the West Bengal govt. would start their bus from 2:00 PM to reach Agartala on the next morning crossing Bangladesh capital Dhaka. Recently the state govt. here has written a letter to the high officials to extend the duty hours of the Akhaura-Benapole custom immigration up till 10:00 PM. It has been learnt that until the duty hour is extended Tripura would face hurdle to ply its bus because at present the custom immigration centre remains open till 6:00 PM. Following the letter from the Government of India on Wednesday State govt. here has decided to send the name of the passengers and the bus number by June 4, ensuring that Agartala bus to remain present during the flag off ceremony on June 6.Talking to the reporters here at the civil secretariat on Wednesday evening, State Transport Minister Manik Dey said, “Tripura Government would send bus at Dhaka on June 5. Besides, following the letter from the Govt. of India on Wednesday the state govt. would have to send the lists of the passengers and their names and passport numbers along with the bus number.â€Adding to that Dey said, “Temporarily Tripura govt. would send the 19-seater air-conditioned bus borrowing from the State Tourism Department on June 5.†The bus would start from Agartala on June 5 carrying the same officials who started for Kolkata on Wednesday as a trial run.
