AGARTALA, June 18 (TIWN): Despite strict warning from the Traffic department, illegal dumping of sand in the middle of road continues causing inconvenience to smooth traffic movement, and more seriously to vulnerable pedestrians. Alike picture came forward from Town Pratapgarh area where sand is being dumped on the roadside covering the middle of the road disrupting the continuous movement of traffic on the road.

Widened portions of the roads get fully occupied for dumping sand and create clogging on either side the road. Elaborating the point, it was seen that dumping of construction material such as sand and stones not only create problems for smooth flow of traffic, but also pose a threat to the lives of commuters.

Sometime the sand is being dumped in the middle of the road and also in front of a house, shop, office which creates mismanagement in the traffic movement.

With the AMC turning a blind eye to the violations, heaps of sand, stone chips, rods and other construction material are dumped on the roadside for days, reducing the space for vehicles.

The sand spreads out onto the roads and becomes a veritable hazard for two-wheelers.

The public roads are not meant for dumping materials, said a localite.  While driving on the road, scooter motor-bikes get skidded on sand and leads to many accidents. Disruption due to construction materials covers the road entirely and effects on people and the natural environment.

Construction effects are predominantly temporary, but they may also be significant, for example causing a increase in noise, vibration, dust, dirt and a loss of amenity due to the presence of heavy construction traffic and other construction activities. Construction activities also affect routes utilized by different types of user, including pedestrians, cyclists and equestrians. In addition, there is the potential for impacts on the natural environment through disturbance to wildlife, pollution of watercourses, and blocking the traffic movement.

The situation turns out to be more risky in the night because many inner roads and by lanes are dumped with sand, bricks and stone.

Piling up of house building materials has become a serious issue as it disrupts traffic movement. The dumps of boulders and stone chips obstruct traffic,” said a localite.
