BSNL to invest Rs. 67 crore in Tripura, | AGARTALA, July 12 (TIWN): Union Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday said that the Modi Government at the centre has a great plans for the land-locked Tripura especially towards intensifying telecom connectivity. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) would invest Rs. 67 crore for Tripura, said Prasad on Saturday at Agartala.Telecom Minister was addressing the launching programme of international internet gateway at Agartala via Bangladesh.Prasad said as part of the master plan of the Government of India the northeast Tripura was given much priority in terms of telecom connectivity. BSNL had already installed 162 towers for mobile VTS whereas more 11 to be installed here in Tripura very soon, said Prasad.He also said the BSNL as part of intensifying the telecom service here in Tripura had launched Next Generation Service where 4 towers had been installed with 6 more in pipeline.Minister addressing the programme on Saturday making a hectic statement said, “To facilitate the growth of eGovernance in the north-eastern states, a software technology park (STP) will be set up in Tripura.â€Adding to that he said the park would be set up covering 6000 sq.ft and if everything falls in right place than the center would become operational by 3 months from now. This will be the fifth such in the northeastern region.The TIDC is the nodal body of the STP while Hyderabad-based Avon Technologies India Private limited is the consultant and Mumbai-based D.K. NE CM's Guwahati meeting : Tripura seeks | AGARTALA, July 12 (TIWN): Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar on Saturday had sought Centre’s intervention towards destroying all the hideouts of the militants in the neighbouring country Bangladesh fully as part of overall strategy for tackling insurgency.The reiterated demand has come up on Saturday during the jumbo meeting at Guwahati chaired by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh for the first time. All the chief ministers of eight northeastern states remained present.Sarkar said, “Insurgent Groups belonging to NLFT continue to take shelter in 16 camps across border out of which three camps are in close vicinity of the international border and these are being used to target bordering areas.â€As per available intelligence, the existing strength of the NLFT is 88 having an estimated holding of about 100 weapons which includes A K Series, LMG, MMG, Rocket Launcher, etc., Sarkar said.“The safe haven of the top militant leaders should be cleared and the blank accounts of top leadership should be frozen,†Sarkar expressed concern during the meeting.Sarkar in his speech during the meeting also mentioned that despite the ongoing peace process, the militants have been constantly trying to revive and rejuvenate their shattered organisations.They have also been trying to induct new youths and continue their extortion as well as illegal activities, Sarkar added.Demanding for a strategic role of the central government Sarkar on Saturday said, “The continued presence of extremists’ hideouts across the border is a major source of threat to peace and tranquillity in the northeastern states.†| 12-Jul-2015 |

Digital push: Union Telecom Minister Rav | AGARTALA, July 11 (TIWN): Union Minister for Telecom Ravi Shankar Prasad on Saturday unveiled the third international gateway for 10 Gbps internet service: Agartala linking Bangladesh Cox Bazar. The foundation was laid at Agartala Rabindra Bhawan. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) signed its first agreement with outside India, to buy bandwidth from Bangladesh Submarine Cable Company to provide internet services in Northeast. Union Telecom Minister Prasad laid the foundation stone in the presence of Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar, Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy and other dignitaries remained present on behalf of BSNL at the ceremonial programme. Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad launched the project to strengthen telecom services in India's North Eastern states. Tripura will get 10Gbps (Giga bits per second) Internet Band With from Bangladesh’s submarine cable for the up gradation of the internet services of the State. However, to bring the high speed internet connectivity from Bangladesh Cox Bazar, BSNL would has to pay Rs. 7.2 crore annually to Bangladesh Government, said BSNL Chairman cum Managing Director (CMD) Anupam Shrivastava during the programme. After a hectic persuasion spanning over 4 years the project got a nod which is expected to cater the need of entire northeastern states and rest of the country, said BSNL NE-I Circle Chief General Manager (CGM) D. Tripura CM raise concerns on insurgency | AGARTALA, July 11 (TIWN): Attending the first ever meeting on Saturday at Guwahati chaired by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar concerned insurgent activities in the bordering areas of the state, said official source. Rajnath Singh had convened the meeting with all the Chief Ministers of 8 northeastern states to review the security status of the NE region. In the historical meeting convened on Saturday at Assam Administrative Staff College, Sarkar said that though the insurgent activities had declined in Tripura but still a section of insurgent groups are hiding out at the bordering areas of the state, the source said. Sarkar who also holds the home portfolio, had urged the central government to concern over the hideouts in Bangladesh. Singh had assured the chief minister that the central government would do everything possible to check insurgency. While some north-eastern States still grapple with insurgency, Tripura has overcome it. High voltage insurgency and an orgy of violence disrupted civic life and communications, and led to the closure of many educational and financial institutions, threatening the authority of the State. The State took on the problems in a strategic and resolute manner under the sagacious and visionary leadership of CM Manik Sarkar. Those strategic interventions paved the way for defusing militancy. These helped soothe the ruffled tempers of the tribal people, the pivotal support base of the insurgents. Rashtriya Swayam Sevak sangh launches ma | AGARTALA, July 11 (TIWN): RSS state unit on Saturday has launched a massive protest rally against the misrule of the CPI-M MLA (Nalchar) Tapan Das on the RSS workers. The RSS workers had also placed a deputation to Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy as a part of their protest and have demanded stern action against MLA Tapan Das. The rally was followed by street corner meeting at Rabindra Bhawan which moved across several parts of the city criticizing the violent attack on RSS workers by CPI-M MLA Tapan Das. However, Nripendra Roy of RSS' Tripura unit said that a group of CPI (M) cadres led by Das had asked the RSS unit members to pack up the yoga camp organized at Killamura Senior Basic School in east Nalchhar village, under Melaghar police station and leave the state as early as possible. The members RSS unit further claimed that MLA Das had even threatened them to death if they continue their yoga program. As the members refused to do this, the CPI (M) cadres ransacked the camp and kidnapped two of its members- Akshai Debnath and Rupamoy Vishwas, who were later rescued by the police, the RSS claimed. Ganadoot triple murder case: HC finds lo | AGARTALA, July 10 (TIWN): Tripura High Court on Friday hearing the bail plea of accused mastermind Sushil Chowdhury has found several loopholes in police investigation procedure which has finally sent Chowdhury for life term imprisonment on Ganadoot triple murder case. The next hearing of the case would be held on July 31. The HC under the Division Bench of Chief Justice Deepak Gupta and Justice U. B. Saha on Friday had sought the forensic report and the finger print report of the dagger seized by the police after the incident took place, but interestingly police’s acting of negligence had not sent the dagger for forensic test. Besides, CJ Deepak Gupta hearing the plea of alleged mastermind Sushil Chowdhury had also pointed out that the police had made no effort to conduct healthy investigation. The HC pointing out the loophole of the police investigation and charge sheets had clarified that after the incident took place the police had also made no effort to barricade the incident spot and as a result several clues which might have brought the clear picture of the incident has been lost. HC also pointed out that there is no such relevant statements and clues which finger towards Sushil Chowdhury, who was accused of the mastermind of the case and was sent to life term imprisonment. Tripura to get 2 more border haats with | AGARTALA, July 10 (TIWN): The border trades between India and Bangladesh has come out as a boon for the land-locked Tripura of northeastern state, which eyes to turn the volume of trade hefty towards socio-economic development and sustainable livelihood. At the meantime Tripura is all set to get more two border haats with neighbouring country Bangladesh, said top official of State Industry and Commerce Department. The official said, “Two more border haats would be set up at Dharmanagar Pal Bosti and the other at Kamalpur bordering Bangladesh District.†Adding to that he said that after Bangladesh Government had agreed to set up these two haats as the state industry department had moved forward to bring everything in right track. “We have also formed haat management committee and are now looking forward to conduct joint management committee meeting with Bangladesh which would be a preliminary towards setting up these haats,†official said to TIWN on Friday. “We have earlier proposed for 8 border haats here in Tripura, but later the Ministry of Industry and Commerce had agreed to set up only 4 at the first stage amongst which two had already come up and is functional,†he added. Tripura’s first flyover: Land acq | AGARTALA, July 10 ( TIWN): The construction of the first flyover of the State started few days back, has been hit as a section of people and shopkeepers under the banner of newly floated Bhoomi Suraksha Committee are unwilling to surrender their holdings for the project. The Nagarjuna Construction Company ltd. which is undertaking the project will be able to start full-fledged work only after the land is handed over by Agratala Municipal Corporation. The project, which was scheduled to be completed in 36 months, will be delayed further if land acquisition is not completed within the stipulate timeframe. Meanwhile, District Magistrate Dr. Milind Ramteke said land acquisition exercise from Nagerjala to Dropgate has been postponed for time being. Recently, the authority of Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) issued notice to almost all residents and shop keepers to give up 9 feet land to undertake fly over project. However, they are reluctant to give up required land citing on the ground that they had already given land twice. Tripura Governor meets Union Civil Aviat | AGARTALA, July 10 (TIWN): To enhance air connectivity in Agartala sector, Tripura Governor Tathagata Roy on Thursday on the request of Chief Minister Manik Sarkar had met Union Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju at New Delhi, said official.Governor during his meeting with Union Minister had detailed discussions with him regarding air connectivity at Agartala. He explained the necessity to have more flights between Agartala and rest of the country especially Kolkata considering the peculiar geographical position of the state. Governor Tathagata Roy on Thursday met with Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju and requested him to consider upgrading Agartala airport to International Airport level, in view of the projected increase of traffic between Tripura and Bangladesh. However, in view of decline of air connectivity in Agartala sector, Chief Minister Manik Sarkar earlier meeting with Governor requested him to take up the matter with central government.As compared to year 2012, the air transportation has declined for last 2 years; the tendency remains same this year even after several persuasions to the Ministry of Civil Aviation. Tata's to invest in Tripura : Ratan Tat | AGARTALA, July 9 (TIWN): Tata Sons Chairman Emeritus Ratan Tata says 'Tripura has great potential but did not get the recognition it deserves'. On a day's visit to Agartala, he promised that the Tata group will come forward with investments and industries to support the development of the state. “We have been greatly impressed by what one can do in a state like Tripura. It’s a very refreshing from what you seen in the overcrowded parts of the country. I have assured the Chief Minister that I will go back to Mumbai with a view to see how we can help with whatever little experience I may have to bring in terms of ideas or how we can go for industries in Tripura that could utilize important natural resources,†Ratan Tata said.
