AGARTALA, July 10 (TIWN): A Regional Committee of Khayerpur on Friday demanded for PNG connection at the Khayerpur area after Chief Minister went to inaugurate the 5th CNG mother station at Biddhanagar.

To ensure smokeless cooking gas and to relief public from the monthly harassment of standing in queue for one long day just to get hold of a cylinder, a regional committee came forward with a demand to provide PNG connection in the area as soon as possible, said a member of the committee.

Hearing the misery of the locals, Chief Minister stated that he has proposed TNGCL to take an immediate initiative to provide PNG connection in that area.

He added that the use to woods not only hampers the heath but also amplify deforestation in the state and hampering ecology. This initiative will not only bring end to the daily harassment of the resident but also will help to control pollution in the state.

Enhancing about the condition of the area, the committee member said that most of the locals are dependent over woods for cooking. Therefore, women of the area are exposed to smoke, inviting various diseases.

If the TNGCL plays an essential role to provide PNG connection in the area, it will help to keep the city green and pollution free, said a member.

According to experts, Biomass (wood) smoke is composed of a relatively equal mixture of coarse and ultrafine particles and can penetrate deeply into the lung, producing a variety of morphologic and biochemical changes.

However, Air pollutants can also cause immune suppression or over stimulate the immune response, which can lead to allergies and immune-mediated diseases. Air pollutants have also been linked to psychological disorders and toxic damage to the nervous system and the brain, especially in developing or young children.

Till the year 2015 we have targeted 4, 000 household to be connected with the piped natural gas. The TNGCL had already connected 17, 996 households with the PNG lines till March 31, 2015.

At the meantime the TNGCL had also targeted to connect at least 10, 000 households with the PNG lines by 2016, though it has not been confirmed yet.

To cater the increasing number of CNG fueled vehicles, the TNGCL has already set up a mother CNG  refilling station at Udaipur and in this regard TNGCL to set up 4 daughter boosters at Amarpur, Shantirbazar, Belonia, and Sonamura.
