Tripura, Meghalaya seek centre's nod for | AGARTALA / GUWAHATI , April 11 (TIWN): Tripura and Meghalaya, which border Bangladesh, have sought the central government's permission to sell surplus electricity generated in the states to the neighbouring country.The two states sought permission from union Power Minister Piyush Goyal during the two-day conference of state power ministers and power secretaries that ended in Guwahati on Friday. The conference was organized to discuss the policy matters aimed at achieving the Narendra Modi government's target of 24 hours electricity to all households in the country within 2019. Tripura Power Minister Manik Dey, noting Bangladesh was interested in purchasing power from Pallatana (gas based) project in the state, sought permission for the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited to sell 100 MW power to Bangladesh. Dual High Court orders irk LF govt : Lef | AGARTALA, April 10 (TIWN): It seems the days are not going smoothly for the only left rule govt in the country ever since the establishment of the Agartala High Court in the state in 2013. Troubled by the rulings made by the High Court in various judgements ever since its inception, the left party leaders are cursing their own cherished demand for establishment of a separate high court in the state.The very fact that the Hgih Court is not under the state government is stopping the government from making any influence on the judges in giving rulings disfavouring the government.At a time when all the state machineries are being misused by the ruling government according to their whims, it is only the high court which is not singing in its tune.It may be mentioned here that the left party alonwith other political parties of the state demanded establishment of a separate high court for the state of Tripura for decades. Various mass organisations of the state including various political parties staged dharnas and rallies for a long time demanding the establishment of the separate high court in the state exclsusively for the state of Tripura. Mid-day meal tragedy: Director of School | BELONIA, April 10 (TIWN): It’s a depressing tale of over 50 children falling sick after consuming their free lunch at a primary school in Tripura. While the government mid-day meal scheme in schools is such an essential component to meet the nutrition needs of thousands of children across the country, this is clearly a case of downright negligence on part of the local administration that needs strict action. As many as 50 students of Mirzapur Higher Secondary School at Belonia in South Tripura fell ill after consuming mid-day meal. The incident took place on Thursday and later all of them were admitted to Belonia Sub-Divisional hospital. At least 19 students were undergoing treatment at the hospital while rest of them was under observation.However on Friday morning the students who were undergoing treatment were discharged from the hospital. TET teachers to bring back confidence (? | AGARTALA, April 9 (TIWN): The school education systetem in Tripura is all set to get a much needed revamp(hopefully ?) after the TTAADC election is over in May this year with the government run schools getting TET (Teachers Eligibility Test) qualified teachers to teach the future generation of the country.Amidst allegations of degradation in education standards in the government schools, the paretnts especially the educated class of the society preferred to put their wards in private schools in different parts of the state for better education. The situation worsened further in the last decade, with allegations of poorly educated candidates being selected as teachers to teach in government run schools.The state government has contituted a selection committee to select eligible candidates as teachers in accordance with the Right to Education Act guidelines. Chaired by Dr. Anup Dutta, the Principal of Amarpur College, the selection board has started functioning from April 1, this year. The seven member committee including the chairman, has three full time and three part time members in it.
