AGARTALA, April 10 (TIWN): The “Gundaraj” of Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) is gaining momentum day by day ahead of Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections which will be held on May 3.

In this regard Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) organized a huge rally which travelled through various routes of the city, said president of IPFT N.C. Debbarma.

Chief Minister (in-charge) Badal Chowdhury on alleged that Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura (IPFT) is the political mask of outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT).

He also criticized the separatist demand and said that the demand for a separate state carved out of Tripura was irrelevant. A section of tribal people were misguided by the slogan. He termed the slogan as conspiracy to vitiate the unity and integrity between tribal and nontribal people in the state.

Earlier, Badal Chowdhury Badal informed that armed militants don’t have presence in the state but they are active across the border. Sometimes, they crossed over international border and killed innocent people or kidnapped villagers.

“The government has no information about nexus between Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) but there are reports of having close relation between IPFT and the NLFT”.
He added, “The IPFT is acting as political mask of the banned outfit- NLFT”.  The Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) came into being in the state under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution in 1987 to protect and safeguard the tribals who form one-third of the state's population.

Al though the reign of terror unleashed by the Indigenous People's Front of Tripura (IPFT), backed by the outlawed National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), has ensured the IPFT's victory in the Tripura Tribal Area Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections, the people of Tripura are yet to get a respite from the terror. NLFT-IPFT members have now started targeting tribal and non-tribal people who voted for the Communist Party of India (Marxist)-led Left Front, said sources.
