AGARTALA, April 9 (TIWN): The school education systetem in Tripura is all set to get a much needed revamp(hopefully ?) after the TTAADC election is over in May this year with the government run schools getting TET (Teachers Eligibility Test) qualified teachers to teach the future generation of the country.Amidst allegations of degradation in education standards in the government schools, the paretnts especially the educated class of the society preferred to put their wards in private schools in different parts of the state for better education. The situation worsened further in the last decade, with allegations of poorly educated candidates being selected as teachers to teach in government run schools. The state government has contituted a selection committee to select eligible candidates as teachers in accordance with the Right to Education Act guidelines. Chaired by Dr. Anup Dutta, the Principal of Amarpur College, the selection board has started functioning from April 1, this year. The seven member committee including the chairman, has three full time and three part time members in it. Among the full time members, one is a Member Secretary and another is Controller of Examinations who are working to start the selection process.

The board will conduct recruitment tests to recruit teachers for primary and high schools.

With the constitution of the board, the chances of inelligble candidates applying for the posts have virtually vanished.  According to the guidelines of the Right to Education Act, every candidate has to be employed through recruitment test after scrutinising the applications of the candidates for their trainging in education and the minimum educational qualification.

The TET (Teachers Eligibility Test) passed candidates will be recruited in the phase manner depending upon the vacancies in various schools.

With teachers being selected through stringent screening tests under a strong selection board, the denizens can keep their confidence in the school education in the government schools throughout the state.

It may be mentioned here that  selection of poorly qualified candidates as teachers in the government schools had given rise to various questions regarding the standard of education in such schools throughout the state and the situation led to lowering of impression of Government run schools and the teaching standard in these schools.

Though no satisfactory result was announced and anxiety still prevails among the 10,323 teachers after High Court verdict cancelling 10323 job appointments.  Registrar of Supreme Court conducted a preliminary hearing in October 2014 and admitted the case for further hearing. Till now among 431 persons, 20 or 30 persons have not received the notice. It is to be mention that 500 petitions were submitted at the Court.

The Supreme Court in the year 2009 issued a notification that in case of appointment of teachers new education policy should be implemented. As per the notification, Central Government had instructed the State Governments to take this policy in action. But the State Government of Tripura turned a deaf ear to this and still no education policy was implemented.

On the other hand, uncertainty still prevails over the 10,323 teachers’ termination case. The teachers were feeling anxious of their future. Whether the Supreme Court will deliver the judgment in their favour or against is now the top most burning question among the all sections of people. The questions arise in the present moment are:

1) Why did the government take refuge in lies from the very beginning?

2) Has the government gotten hint from legal experts that it would lose the case in the SC?

3) Is the Inter Locator appeal another attempt to fooling the people?

4) If the hearing on Interlocutory Application date is finalized after 31st December what will be the government's step?

5) Is the government worried after it learned that the case will be dealt with Avisekh Many Singbhi and in that case will it be defeat awaiting situation?

It is to be mentioned here that the High Court of Tripura on seventh May issued an order for the termination of services of 10,323 teachers as the State government does not follow the justified process for their selection. After that the Government appealed to the Supreme Court to take proper action in the termination issue of the teachers.

On the other hand, a section of the job aspirants among 10,323 teachers will file a criminal case against the State Government. A highly informed source states that, if State Government failed to win the 10,323 teacher termination case in the Supreme Court, most of the teachers will file case against the Government.
