IPFT and REGA making CPI(M) run for vote | AGARTALA, April 25(TIWN): Confident about their sweep in the TTAADC election before the poll date announcement, the ruling CPI(M) is now finding it difficult to make a clean sweep after the IPFT’s all out campaign and the REGA unrest in the hills at the eleventh hour of the election. As the day for the TTAADC election is approaching fast, the ruling left front too has brought pace in its campaign trial throughout the state, especially in the areas where the IPFT is emerging strong owing to its Tipraland issue and the increasing support of the younger voters on the issue. On the backfoot for the dual issue of REGA unrest and Tipraland’s popularity in the tribal belt, the ruling left front has started attacking the IPFT and INPT claiming them to be the conspirators. In a press statement issued by the state CPI(M) unit from its Melarmath head office last night, the party says,†With the election to ADC drawing close, the leaders and workers of IPFT and INPT have started provocative activities in Hezamara blockâ€. The statement alleged that INPT and IPFT leaders had been instigating tribal people who never took part in REGA work to demand payment of wages in cash which is highly unreasonable . Refering to a specific incident, the statement said that ‘unruly’ IPFT and INPT workers had forcibly picked up the women chairpersons of Shankhola and Ramshankar ADC villages from their homes and confined them by force to ADC village offices. The statement further said that on Thursday the IPFT and INPT ‘miscreants’ had 'gheraoed' the chairperson of Bharat Chowdhury para ADC village for more than thirteen hours. It was December 2008 when National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has decided to retrofit a hospital and a school building in Tripura considering a possible high intensity earthquake in Northeast. But asked the state govt to conduct a structural safety audit on existing constructions in the state before go for retrofitting he old buildings. Except Ujjyanta Palace and Neermahal, Tripura government could not do the safety audit. The historical monument of IGM Hospital, which was planned by Royal family to make a medical college in last century, the overwhelmed left architects entirely destroyed the beautiful structure of historical V M Hospital and now it is a white building in the heart of Agartala without minimum health care facilities. Court convicts 4 accused on 2008 Agartal | AGARTALA, April 25 (TIWN): The Additional District and Session Court Judge S.B. Dutta on Saturday convicted at least 4 accused namely Kumari Debbarma, Dinesh Debbarma, Sachindra Debbarma and Vikash Debbarma on 2008 Agartala bombing case after at least 7 years. However the court is scheduled to announce the punishment of the convicted on April 28. Public Prosecutor of the case was R P Roy and Special Public Prosecutor was L R Khadim.It is worthy to be mentioned here that there were five blasts on October, 2008 evening at the capital city Agartala killing two people and injuring 70 others. All the blasts took place within a span of 45 minutes and the capital city of the relatively peaceful North-Eastern state of Tripura was put on the terror map.Crude bombs were apparently used and timers were used to set them off. The bombs were planted on cycles and motor bikes while two other bombs were recovered and defused.The first explosion took place around 7.30 pm at the Radhanagar bus stand. Minutes later, there was another blast at Maharajganj Bazar in the heart of the city.The two are about 2 km apart. 700 killed as huge earthquake rocks Nepa | KATHMANDU/NEW DELHI/AGARTALA, April 25 (TIWN): At least 700 people were killed and many were left bloodied when a massive earthquake shook Nepal and India, causing widespread devastation. Buildings collapsed, roads cracked and phone lines snapped as the earth trembled.The earthquake measured a staggering 7.9 on the Richter scale, with its epicentre at Nepal's Lamjung district some 75 km northwest of capital Kathmandu. There were six strong aftershocks. Over 700 were killed in the devastation, according to Nepal's ministry of home affairs, while six people died in India.Five people, including a woman, were killed and at least 20 injured across north Bengal on Saturday following a 7.9 magnitude earthquake with its epicenter in Nepal, rocked many parts of north, eastern India.The Kathmandu airport was shut, triggering cancellation of flights from India to Kathmandu. An Indigo flight had to return to Delhi. Unconfirmed reports said avalanches on Mount Everest were triggered by the earthquake. JICA massive corruption : Tripura's Lame | AGARTALA, April 25 (TIWN): After series of corruptions unearthed in almost all the state government departments, a new case of corruption has been unearthed involving foreign money in the state under the lame duck department headed by a lame duck RD Minister Naresh Jamatia under Chief Minister Manik Sarkar's patronage. In a strongly written letter issued by the CEO, JICA to the Chief Executive Engineer, RD, the CEO urged the RD department to rectify the defectively constructed buildings of the forest department within a span of 45 days. Jittered by the bad remarks made by the Third Party Assesse about the poor constructions in the 62 buildings under various districts of the state, the CEO urged the Chief Engineer to immediately take action so that the state’s image is not tarnished again in the national level as the Third Party Assessment was done by a reputed M/S MacDonald Private Limited, Noida, which is doing the assessment of various projects of the central government in various states. Kalpana Das brutal murder case: Prime ac | AGARTALA, April 24 (TIWN): Recently expelled CPI-M leader and the prime accused of Kalpana Das murder case Jiten Das sent to police remand for another 3 days for further interrogation by first class judicial magistrate Dharmendra Das on Friday evening. While the other three accused Satindra, Atindra and Jiten’s nephew Siddhartha Das were sent to Jail Custody for 15 days.The police had sought 8 days remand for intensive interrogation to all the four accused persons. Das and his younger brothers and nephew were formally arrested on April 16 by personnel of Ranir Bazar police station on charges of murdering Jiten Das's wife Kalpana, 62, in the early hours on April 15. EVMs commissioning for ADC election to c | AGARTALA, April 24 (TIWN): Commissioning of Electronic Voting Machines (EVM)s for the general election to Tripura Tribal Areas and Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) would be continued till April 26, as per the schedule, said Chief Election Officer S.K. Rakesh on Friday.The EVMs would be used in the TTAADC elections for the first time. However the election is scheduled to be held on May 3, 2015.Talking to the media persons on Friday at the civil secretariat CEO S. K. Rakesh informed that as per the preparation process of the ADC election, force movement at the ADC areas in wake of the election has already been planned and along with the postal ballot processing is going on in full swing. CEO also mentioned that out of the total of 71 booths one booth has been dropped out as there are no voters. “A total of 70 booths would function during the election slated to be held on May 3,†said Rakesh.A total of 1400 EVMs was loaned from the Election Commission of India (ECI) to be issued to the general election to TTAADC, he said. Talking to TIWN on Thursday Bhowmik confirmed, “The BG rail line up to Udaipur under Gomati District would be commissioned by March 2016.†Adding to that he further said, “Besides the rail line up to Sabroom would be commissioned by 2017.†Bhowmik also said that on its first phase under Group-A the BG line from Lumding, Badarpur to Shilchar has been taken up whereas under Group-B the line from Badarpur to Agartala has been taken up. Besides, on another separate project work that is during the phase 2 the BG line from Agartala to Sabroom would be taken up, Bhowmik said. Conversion work of 108 kilometer railway tracks of Mega Block has been already completed out of 228 kilometers. The source also said that besides, after the 4 accused persons are produced before the court on April 24, the real entity of the case would be brought up because as of now the detained Jiten Das has puzzled the police making several irrelevant statements.
