Udaipur, April 12 (TIWN): Police of Udaipur seems to have no more sympathy for the victims. Such a case, where Aparna Das had been brutally tortured by her husband Partha Das and his family for dowry. Whether the complaint was filed on the very day of the event, that is on April 7 still no arrest has been done by the police, which again proves the negligence of police department. This lacklustre attitude of police may stimulate the torturers to pursue their misdeeds without any fear.

Aparna Das(24) had been ruthlessly tortured by her husband Partha Das(30), her mother-in-law Namita Das, and sister-in-law Sima Das. It had been reported that she was tortured in such an extent that many stitches on her body had to give after she was taken to the Gomati District Hospital. Partha Das of Shalgarah, Udaipur and his family started to torment Aparna Das after few days of their marriage. She was tolerating them from 6 years of her married life. Hence it was on April 7 the matter was complained at R.K.Pur Women Police Station.

While talking to TIWN correspondent, on April 7 evening, Arunima Acharjee (ASI Women Police Station) said that her husband can’t be arrested at that moment as IPC 498A is no more usable for instant arresting of an accused person without special permission taken from the court. But she also said that within 2 days he would be in lock up.

Surprisingly, when TIWN correspondent went to take the update of Aparna Das’s case, Madhabi Debbarma (O/C in-charge, R.K. Pur, Women Police Station) repeated the same law and again demanded 3/4 days to be followed as the permission has not come yet.

Whether, if they wanted they could have booked additional IPC sections as IPC 307(attempt to murder) and other IPC sections violent crime against women which could lead immediate arrest of her husband and husband’s family.

The O/C was again said, “We went to arrest him, but could not catch him. He was not at home.” Now the question is how they could go for the arrest if they had not received the special permission from the Magistrate? Or they got the permission and just lingering the matter?

By such attitudes the status of women will never be changed in our state. Many Aparnas will have to sink down and forgotten in the name of dowry system.
