North Eastern Council (NEC) meet in Delhi ; Governor P.B.Achariya bats for Tripura

AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, April 10 (TIWN): DoNER Minister Jitendra Singh on Thursday announced a direct daily flight from Delhi to Dimapur in Nagaland from April 15 onwards. Governor P.B.Achariya spoken on NEC initiatives and importance of Tripura, Assam and other NE states. Addressing the 64th plenary meeting of the North Eastern Council (NEC), Jitendra Singh said the government was trying to start direct flights to many other parts of the northeast, as air connectivity has always been an issue for the region.The meeting was attended by the governors and chief ministers of the northeastern states, and officers from the state and the central governments.Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju said the development priorities for a particular state should be fixed in consultation with that state.Several issues related to railways / BG conversion, road transport, Civil aviation,Airport expansion,and border security in Tripura and other were discussed in the meeting. Tripura to get central funding of various projects under the North East Council initiatives of developmental work in NE region.

"Politics should have no place in developmental activities and there should be absolute coordination between the state governments and the concerned central ministries," he said.

Corruption should be eradicated in implementation of development plans, he said.

Rijiju said the northeast has great potential to emerge as a trade hub and the union government has the vision to "Look East through North East".

NEC secretary Ameising Luikham presented his report on the various development activities being carried out in the region.
