 Installation of LED lights in full swing; more lights likely to arrive today

AGARTALA, April 10 (TIWN): The Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has taken up the project work of the installation of the light-emitting diode (LED) lights across the capital city Agartala in full swing with the Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) area would come under its coverage within a couple of months next.

Talking to TIWN today the official source of AMC informed that, at present 2500 LED lights have been installed from Agartala airport to different streets of the capital city. “More LED lights are on the way to Agartala and some of them are likely to arrive here today from Churaibari,” source confirmed today. He said that some more electrical accessories remained still at Guwahati and Assam and they are in the way to Agartala.

He said that once the LED lights reach here the work will kick off in full swing again. He hoped that the entire project work of the installation of the LED lights across the capital city would finish within the next couple of months.

Amount of Rs. 20 crore will be spent to bring the entire Municipality are under the coverage of LED lights. Tripura government has approved a proposal to change the existing 30,000 street lights in Agartala to Light Emitting Diode (LED) lights. The proposal was put forward by Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL), an undertaking of the Union Ministry of Power.

According to the MoU, the EESL would install a total of 35,000 street lights in the city. Nearly Rs. 18-20 crores has been estimated for the entire 10-year long project. S Datta, Principal Consultant of EESL and AMC Commissioner – Abhishek Chandra signed the MoU in the presence of Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation – Dr. Prafullajit Sinha, Mayor-in-Council – Shyamal Dey including others at the conference hall of AMC.

EESL says Agartala will be the first city in northeastern India and second city in eastern India (after Kolkata) to install an LED-based street lighting system. As part of the project, EESL will auto-programme each and every bulb in the city, so that the lights get cut automatically based on requirement.
