Agartala,April 10 (TIWN):With the elections to Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) doing the round, political parties have geared up their activities by putting nomination papers before the respective Returning Officers.
As many as 66 candidates submitted nomination papes to the Returning Officers today taking the total number of submitted nomination papers to 173 in the 28 poll bound constituencies of tribal council. Speaking to media at Civil Secretariat election commissioner SK Rakesh today said four CPM candidates, six teen BJP candidates, 25 INC candidates, eight INPT candidates, five from others and eight independent candidates submitted nomination papers to the respective Returning Officers (RSs).
The election to the 28-member Tripura ADC will be held on May 3. The votes will be counted on May 6. The whole election process will be completed by May 10.4. The last date for submission of nomination papers is April 11. Nomination can be withdrawn till April 16.
According to EC guidelines, the model code of conduct has been enforced across Tripura after the announcement of the poll date, he said. The EC has allowed the state election authority to use 1,450 EVMs for the ADC polls for the first time. The process will be conducted in 1,071 polling booths across eight districts of the state. Since 1982, the Tripura ADC polls have used ballot papers.
About 7.58 lakh electorate, including 3.75 women will exercise their franchise. About 31% of the state's total population will be casting their votes for the ADC polls.
