Tripura Hight Court's Feb 12 order on 2G | NEW DELHI / AGARTALA, February 26 (TIWN): Reliance Telecom Wednesday told the Supreme Court that the private telecom service providers (TSP) were an integral part of the telecom system and need not be looked upon as some kind of profit mongers."To call us profit mongers is unfair. We are a part of service provider utility (as per the National Telecom Policy-2012)", senior counsel P. Chidambaram told the apex court bench of Justice Dipak Misra and Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel. PM Modi accepts Finance Commission's rec | AGARTALA / NEW DELHI, Feb 25 (TIWN): With its first full budget due this weekend, the Narendra Modi-led government Tuesday accepted the recommendations of the 14th Finance Commission for a record increase of 10 percent in the states' share of the divisible pool of central taxes, despite negative implications for the fiscal deficit.In a letter to all chief ministers, Modi said: "We have wholeheartedly accepted the recommendations of the 14th Finance Commission, although it puts a tremendous strain on the Centre’s finances." "The 14th FC has recommended a record increase of 10 percent in the devolution of the divisible pool of resources to states," he said, according to a release from the prime minister's office.As per the increased devolution suggested in the report of the 14th Finance Commission, the states will get Rs.348,000 crore in 2014-15 and Rs.526,000 crore in 2015-16. "There is a shift from scheme- and grant-based support from the central government to a devolution-based support. While the unavailability of generic medicines became a nightmare for the common people of the State, the spurious medicines and illegal medicines sold at local drug stores leading the life of the patients to death. Besides these chemist shops are selling the medicines at exaggerated prices which is impossible for the patients to buy. In some cases, Drug Inspectors not interested in any enquiry, keeping eyes closed in exchange of bribe. It is to be said that in the year 2013, license of 8 medical shops were suspended. But drastically it increased to 25 in the year 2014.
