Agartala, February 25 (TIWN): “Central Government is playing a step motherly attitude towards Tripura for allotting work in MGNREGA”- says, CPIM State General Secretary, Bijan Dhar. But inspite of that Tripura will likely to maintain top most position for sixth time in MGNREGA.

Clarifying the details, Mr. Dhar told that in the year 2013-14 the total fund allocated for MGNREGA is 1300 crore. But surprisingly the disbursed amount lead to only 943 crore. In the year2014-15, the fund allocation is 14 crore rupees. The disbursed amount is 6 crore. In the recent year upto February 22, 636 crore 62 lakhs had been dispatched. In the meantime, 70 mandays work had been completed. The remaining work will be completed within March 2013.

Further, General Secretary also told that this policy had been introduced to keep harm on the local people. Recently, nearly six lakh fifty thousand job card holders are there in Tripura. And as per the labour budget the financial requirement is Rs.1407 crore to support 5, 14, 000, 00 man days. Earlier too the state had written number of letters to the concerned ministry for the same. But Government of India did not respond to any of the letters of the Tripura. To add to insult to the injuries, the central has reduced the fund disbursement by 69%.In this regard the answer of the question, why Tripura was made short  of adequate money inspite of achieving the top slot in implementing MGNREGA project, is hard to find.

Fifteen blocks were proposed as the upper ceiling of selecting priority blocks for implementing the central wage employment scheme as per backwardness index developed by the National Planning Commission using the 2011 census data, As per the new Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment (MGNREGA) Act, Central Govt. identified at least 15 backwards Blocks at Tripura following the 2011 census. Though Central Government had been appealed to increase the number of blocks, but Central Government maintains its position without any prior contact with the Tripura Govt. The 15 backward Blocks identified are – Rupaichhari RD Block, Dumburnagar, Hezamara, Ompi, Karbuk, Chhamanu, Mungiakami, Damchhara, Jampuijala, Dasda, Manu, Tulashikhar, Padmabil, Penchartal, and Mandai
