Tripura on high alert for Swine Flu: 5000 medicines from Andhra Pradesh reached state: Badal Choudhury

AGARTALA, February 24 (TIWN): “5000 medicines from Andhra Pradesh had reached Tripura to prevent the death toll to be occurred at Tripura- as informed by Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Badal Choudhury at Civil Secretariat. More medicines will be coming from Maharashtra- Minister further added. Though no case of Swine Flu is being registered yet, but precautionary measures were taken, so that people should not be attacked by these deadly virus.Tripura government has deployed two special medical teams for surveillance at Agartala airport and Churaibari land entry post along the Assam border. Health minister Badal Choudhury said testing kits have been installed for diagnosing H1N1 virus at the entry points of the state as a precautionary measure. People have been cautioned to stay away from mosquito bites and to maintain hygiene.

Recently in a review meeting, decision has been sorted out to post medical teams at Agartala airport and other entry points including the India Bangladesh check posts to screen people.
The northeastern states share international boundaries with China, Myanmar, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Nepal and there is frequent cross border movement of people in the region ­ legally and illegally. In the mean time, the number of deaths across India due to swine flu reached 774 on Saturday, with 31 more people succumbing to the disease.
States like Gujarat, Rajasthan, Delhi, Maharashtra and Telangana witnessed a rise in number of swine flu cases and the figure of those infected with H1N1 virus stands at 12,963 till February 21, according to Union health ministry.
While talking about other North East States, In Mizoram a Mizo woman was detected with swine flu, the first case in the state, bordering Myanmar. An official informed that blood samples of four people, including the woman, were sent to the National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases in Kolkata where one sample (of the woman) was found to be H1N1 positive. The woman is now under medical supervision.
In Nagaland, the state's health and family welfare department sounded a high alert in its entire 11 district units after a woman in Dimapur tested positive for swine flu. The Assam, Tripura, Manipur and Meghalaya governments have also sounded high alerts and directed the district medical authorities to be ready to deal with any eventuality.
It is to be mentioned here that a well-equipped special ward to deal with swine flu cases has been set up at Agartala Govt Medical College (AGMC) and doctors, along with para-medical staff, have been asked to remain vigilant while attending routine OPD's.
