AGARTALA, April 24 (TIWN): Recently expelled CPI-M leader and the prime accused of Kalpana Das murder case Jiten Das sent to police remand for another 3 days for further interrogation by first class judicial magistrate Dharmendra Das on Friday evening. While the other three accused Satindra, Atindra and Jiten’s nephew Siddhartha Das were sent to Jail Custody for 15 days.The police had sought 8 days remand for intensive interrogation to all the four accused persons. Das and his younger brothers and nephew were formally arrested on April 16 by personnel of Ranir Bazar police station on charges of murdering Jiten Das's wife Kalpana, 62, in the early hours on April 15. Jiten and co-accused persons are produced before the court on Friday after the completion of their 6 days police remand. Earlier after being produced before the court prime accused of the murder incident Jiten Das managed to deviate from his statements to police interrogators that his wife had "committed suicide because of a mental problem". He claimed that a gang of dacoits had stormed his house on April 14 night and killed his wife when she tried to resist them.Jiten will be produced in court again on April 27. Court on Friday sending three accused to 15 days jail custody also allowed the investigating officers to interrogate them in jail.

He has been expelled from the party by the Sadar subdivisional committee of the CPM with approval of senior most party leaders who were in Visakhapatnam for the party congress that has been completed recently.

Besides, it is worthy to be mentioned her that on Friday after Jiten was brought to the court, a section of angry mob could be witnessed throwing eggs and stone on “blue eyed” Jiten Das. The incident occurred while police barricade carrying Jiten were on a move towards to court room from Court lock-up. The angry mob tried to break the police barricade and was seen throwing eggs and stones on Jiten.  A large number of public has thronged the court premises on Friday. The same could also be witnessed on April 18, when Jiten and co-accused were brought to the court.

However, according to the highly placed source from police it has been revealed that Jiten during the police interrogation had puzzled the personnel stating several irrelevant statements. Besides, the police had also collected some major clues against Jiten during the interrogation, said that source. The source disclosed that in the course of interrogation all the four arrested, including Jiten, had given contradictory and inconsistent versions and the case needs deeper investigation.

The source also said that some more accused are likely to be arrested soon, whereas currently police is interrogating another suspect of the case Shibu Das, but no severe clues could be collected from her, said source.

After the murder of Kalpana Das, wife of prime accused Jiten Das, several allegations were raised against the suspect Shibu Das amongst which it revealed that Jiten was having an illicit relation with Shibu, and acting on behest of Jiten Shibu das overdosed deceased Kalpana with sleeping pills on April 14 night.

The state government has constituted a special team of police officers comprising additional superintendents R.L. Meena, D.K. Saraswati, subdivisional police officer Tapas Deb and inspectors Kamalendu Bhowmik, Manik Debnath, Nityananda Sarkar and Sursen Tripura to investigate the case.
