Amarpur, April 25 (TIWN): Residents and forest officials found the body of a baby elephant from a lake in deep jungle of Gandhari forest at Amarpur on Friday.
Taking to TIWN on Friday, Additional District Forest Officer (DFO) Ratan Kumar Das said the body of baby elephant was found from a lake in deep jungle of Gandhari forest.
The elephant cub must have gone to drink from the lake but accidentally fell in and was unable to free himself from the mud at the bottom, Additional DFO said.
On being asked about the reason, the Additional DFO said that “We have send the body for post mortem and forensic test and after that only the real cause of the reason behind the death will be reviled”.
The body is around 10 to 12 days old, he added.
On the other hand some officials believe the baby elephant became separated from his herd or was left behind because of ill health.
