MGNREGA workers gherao Minister Aghore Debbarma: Minister manages to escape with the help of police escort

KHOWAI, April 24 TIWN): Hundreds of Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) workers of Tulashikar Block under east Bachal Bari ADC village on Thursday gheraod Tribal Welfare (Excluding TRP, PTG) minister Aghore Debbarma when he was present in a TTAADC election campaign at Khowai.

The workers said to the minister that they have worked 60 days in the year 2014-15 but till date they did not get their wages. Only in the time of elections the ministers and leaders of CPI-M are coming in the village to seek vote and after winning the elections the ministers and leaders did not remember us, the workers alleged.

The minister was speechless when the villagers were asking him question. Immediately the police escort rushed to the minister and managed to bring him back from the angry villagers.

It is to be mentioned here that on April 20 a total of 700 Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) workers of Tulashikar Block under east Bachal Bari ADC village went to meet the Block Development Officer (BDO) of Tulashikar Block regarding the issue.  The Block Development Officer (BDO) namely Bishambar Debbarma said that the bank officials are not providing the wages to the 700 MGNREGA workers.

It is also to be mentionable here that the state Tripura is already under the limelight of massive corruptions and scams in MGNREGA fund. And besides, such an irregularities in MGNREGA wages under almost every Panchayats of the state are often coming out highlighted where the workers are being deprived at large and often they show a protest infront of the panchayats. But the administration has been playing a role of a silent spectator, with the state government leaving no stones unturned.
