The block was supposed to be inaugurated in the month of April’2016, but inaugurated 2 months later without displaying any details of the utilization of the funds. Gambling racket on a rise in state: Trip | AGARTALA, July 18 (TIWN): Agartala East police on Monday busted gambling racket behind the Hindi higher Secondary school at Abhoynagar and arrested at least 10 gamblers from the spot. Acting on a tip off, Tripura East police on Monday raided the spot behind Hindi Higher secondary school at Abhoynagar and arrested 10 gamblers from the spot. However, police also said that cash worth amount of Rs20, 820 was also recovered from the spot along with three mobile phones and notebooks and pens. However, police is yet to carry out the detailed investigation but the arrested gamblers are dragged to lock up from the spot. According to police this is one of the biggest rackets which police have busted today and will also conduct regular raids to curb the rising business of gambling demon the city. The illegal business of gambling for earning more money in short time is leading to chaos in the city. Although, some restrictions are imposed for practicing such activities but the so called restrictions have failed to stop gambling in the state.Day after day the youth are getting engaged in this business aiming to make money. Talking to TIWN correspondent, Urban Development Minister Manik Dey said that 90:10 proportion of funding is acceptable for Modi Govt's SMART City project as Agartala was selected under the 13 top urban cities which are now set for conversion into SMART city. 3 Mizoram drug smugglers nabbed with bro | MUJAFFAR NAGAR (Damchara, North Tripura), July 17 (TIWN): Mizoram-Tripura border Longai River bridge has become a favorite drug smuggling route as international gangs are operating over it in broad day light. Police and BSF authorities managed to arrest three more smugglers from Damchara area when they were passing through Longai river bridge on Sunday with ‘brown sugar’ consignments. TIWN North Tripura correspondent was informed by authorities that Damchara PS O/C Kiran Shankar Chowdhury alongwith 2nd O/C Harendra Debbarma nabbed 3 Mizos at Mujaffar Nagar area (Under Damchara). The 3 smugglers have been identified as : 1) Jaliana Reang, S/O- Lalbuthanga Reang, resident of New Eden, Mamit Jila at Mizoram, 2) Bhanlal Bhoana, S/O– Lalthan Fuia Reang (from same address of Jaliana Reang), 3) Nabinjoy Reang, S/O- Udaram Reang, Resident of Bahadur Basti, Khedachara. FIR has been lodged against them with the case number 27/2016 / Under Section 22 of NDPS Act. 3 of them are produced before the court on Sunday. Police also recovered 124 gram of brown sugar worth 5 lakhs. Rapist TCS officer Panna Ahmed row: Poli | AGARTALA, July 17 (TIWN): During 3 days of interrogation police failed to nab details related to the criminal activity done by rapist Panna Ahmed, said case I/O Olivia Debbarma. Talking to TIWN correspondent, case I/O Olivia Debbarma said that during the interrogation of rapist Panna Ahmed who was behind the bar after court has sent him to three days of police remand Panna is so far unable to satisfy the interrogators as to why he was absconding from the state soon after FIR was registered against him. I/O Olivia Debbarma further no concrete details is yet dig out from Panna so far. She further said Ahmed could not say yet as to why he was absconding from the state soon after FIR had been registered against him. However, according to the preliminary interrogation, Panna left Agartala on July 2 for karimganj with the help of his two aides and there he stayed in hotel for few days until a room was confirmed in the house of one Shefali Deb at karimganj. The rapist Panna Ahmed was arrested on Tuesday at 12.30 PM from Shivbari road under Karimganj district of Assam. Hundreds of oil tankers are now stranded on National Highway 44, which connects Tripura to the rest of the country, as heavy rains, mudslides and water-logging has turned a 20 km-stretch of the crucial road into slush. Although renovation was done for a glimpse but again the incessant rain over past few days has disrupted the renovation work. The condition of the highway which appears to be like a muddy way has turned immovable. There is no chance of complete renovation of NH44(8) at least before 1 year. This condition of the highway is not a result of one day but lack of maintenance for past many years has led to situation.
