AGARTALA, July 19 (TIWN): Incessant rain since Monday has turned havoc for the residents of Bishalgarh and Charilam. Many families have been running in distress following the heavy downpour in the state.

Several areas are left inundated with water. However, seeing the critical condition of the people at Bisalgarh and Charilam, the sub divisional authority has opened 5 refugee camps for the temporary shelter of the flood victims.

Commuters got stranded in many parts of Bisalgarh major roads were flooded due to poor condition of drainage lines.

Some of the internal roads were inundated for hours. There were also reports of rain water causing damage to shops and housing blocks. There is no proper system to drain out water accumulating on roads. This leads to water logging and makes life miserable for citizens.

Heavy rainfall across Agartala city and suburban area has hit the normal life in the city on Tuesday morning. After a dry spell of over a month, the monsoon finally made its presence felt in the city, as heavy rain disrupted the road and transport services.

Torrential rains have caused massive destruction and severe distress at Bisalgarh and Charilam with several fatalities and large numbers displaced. Several houses, especially in low lying areas, have been washed away or entirely damaged. Many minor roads have been damaged, along with houses and shops were also damaged. There has been a major communication and power breakdown due to transformers and towers being damaged.

Incessant rain, since morning, has thrown life out of gear in parts of Agartala, disrupting road traffic and causing damage to paddy crop in some suburb areas.

Though delayed by couple of days, the heavy rain has finally provided sigh of relief to the people from the extended summer in Agartala.

The strong surface winds turned the weather chilly and led to a drop in temperature forcing senior citizens to remain indoors. Children returning from schools and their parents had to brave the rain and chilly weather.

The rainwater overflowed on the roads and a broken road posed a threat to motorists and pedestrians alike.

Daily wage earners, petty vendors, and those involved in outdoor work like marketing executives had a tough time.
