AGARTALA, July 18 (TIWN): Marijuana or Ganja ---This drug although illegal in India, but so much available in Tripura with much cheaper price, spoiling the generations, causing cancer and damaging the society from the grass-wood level.

Tripura’s West border leaned subdivision Sonamura has remained under control of massive Ganj a production, resulting number of increasing smuggling and selling of intoxicated items in cheaper price across the state.

Talking to Pradip De, SP Sepahijala District, on Monday he mentioned that ‘since last 2 years police and BSF  held a huge numbers of raids to diminish the Ganja production there’.

He added, ‘Not only BSF and police, but at DM level a core-committee was made which controlled the sensitization activities to destroy Ganja production there’.

‘In last year there many raids held in Sonamura subdivision, where we damaged the plants in its nursery stage’, said SP.

He added, before raids we organized miking and then on the next day the raids were done, and around the whole year, such raids continued. This year, more raids are in plan, said SP.

However, he also said, ‘Still Ganja production exists in Sonamura subdivision and it can not be said it’s fully diminished’.

It’s worthy to mention here that,  ganja products at Sonamura are used for smuggling via Indo-Bangla unfenced border and also there are chains of business occupying the state fully, damaging the society.

Negligence of the govt. and lack of proper observation has increased the number of illegal ganja production in Sonamura subdivision.

Question arises, despite regular raids conducted by police, why illegal ganja cultivation is on rise?

Why police can’t stop the illegal business at Sonamura subdivision which is of only 479.5 km² ?

A large number of villagers in the particular area of Putia and Manikya nagar under kalamchaura police station cultivate ganja and smuggle it to Bangladesh as it brings back huge amount of money from the trespassing of Ganja.

Large parts of Bangladesh and Myanmar are emerging as drug consuming zones, and bordering areas of Tripura are contributing to the fast-emerging drugs market.
