KAMALPUR, July 17 (TIWN): The sub-division had gone through a long way from 1920 when it was declared as the sub-division in the royal Tripura.

The sub-division witnessed many glorious days as well as pathos. The cargos and newspapers were directly brought to the sub-division when Manikbhandar airport was in operation.

The sub-division also had its police station, court, hospital and public library before the leftist could gain power in the state assembly for the first time in 1978. The sub-division also had a vast area including the present Ambassa sub-division.

And at present, the sub-division virtually ceased to exist with vitality. The all powerful ruling party and its leaders, though remained busy in trumpeting the demands of development, but failed to usher any new ray of hope in the long unrestrained power.

The sub-division received its first major jolt when in 1990, the Manikbhandar airport ceased to operate anymore and the decision was announced from the part of the Central government suddenly along with other two airports Kailsahar and Khowai.

Then , in 1995, when the so-called most veteran leader of Kamalpur and the most public-concerned one, late Bimal Sinha became the Health Minister, the district headquarter was shifted to Ambassa.

At the same time, the erstwhile Kamalpur sub-division was divided into Kamalpur and Ambassa sub-divisions. The ruling party failed to utter a single word in the greater interest of the sub-division. It was just the beginning.

Then the district hospital, district Court and all other district offices were shifted from Kamalpur. The latest incident was that, Kamalpur Bus Terminus would not be treated as the halting point for the vehicle of the alternative national highway, which was earlier planned to be run touching Kamalpur.

Now, the halting point got planned to be set at Manikbhandar. And what became reasonable and successful in other border-adjacent towns like Kailasahar and Khowai, Kamalpur remained just opposed to it.

As a result, when Kailasahar and Khowai enjoyed the glory of district headquarter, Kamalpur continued its struggle to be alive and jubilant. Moreover, the promising project of Border Hat also lost its way in the dreary desert of politics.

Now, the party Secretary and MLA Anjan Das who often claimed to work in the greater interest of Kamalpur before being the party Secretary also numbed up in the issue.

And the situation became so worse, that the trumpeting Chairman of Nagar Panchayat Subrata Bhattacharjee failed to beautify the small town as he claimed before the election.

Now, the youths, students and guardians of Kamalpur got in the fear of gloomy future and having no prospect and got in trying to escape the area, they once loved and felt proud.
