AGARTALA, July 17 (TIWN): As a part of felicitation to newly appointed Chief Justice of Tripura High Court T. Vhaipei a friendly match was organised by the Tripura Bar association on Sunday at Umakanta Mini stadium.
However, a huge enthusiasm was noticed among the lawyers as most of them on Sunday participated in the friendly match including several types of matches.
Competition was held in different matches including Tug of war, shot put and many others.
Women lawyers were also seen participating in the friendly match organised on Sunday at Umakanta mini stadium.
However, a friendly football match was also organised in the stadium at 9.30 am in the mini stadium.
Justice Tinlianthang Vaiphei of Gauhati high court sworn in as acting chief justice of Tripura high court.
He succeeds Justice Deepak Gupta who has taken oath as the chief justice of Chhattisgarh high court. Tripura governor Tathagata Roy administered the oath of office.
Justice Vaiphei is the seniormost puisne judge of the Gauhati high court. Born in 1956, he got his BA degree in 1976 from Nowrosjee Wadia College, University of Pune, and obtained an LLB degree from Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi, in 1979. He has been practising since 1980 in Manipur. He was also the advocate general of Mizoram.
Justice Vaiphei was elevated to the bench as additional judge in the Gauhati high court in July 2003 and was made a permanent judge in February 2005. In October last year, he was appointed as the acting chief justice of the high court.
