Massive fire broke out at GB hospital : | AGARTALA, Dec 24 (TIWN): The people at the GB hospital on Thursday narrowly escaped death when fire broke out in the kitchen of the AGMC hospital triggering massive panic in the hospital premises. A fire broke out on in the kitchen of the GB hospital from cooking gas cylinder leakage. Fire tenders have arrived at the location and the fire was brought under control with the joint efforts of the common people and the fire service crew. Patients were distressed as fire erupted in the kitchen of the hospital.The process for controlling the fire began approximately after few minutes of the fire incident. Panic gripped the area, when such a massive fire broke out in the kitchen of the hospital. Reportedly, the incident took place in the early hours of Thursday morning when the workers of the kitchen witnessed smoke spreading wide along with the flames and immediately realized that fire broke out in the kitchen from gas leakage.The eye witness also said that the fire broke out due to the leakage of the gas from the cylinder. Getting alarm about the fire incident huge police force has reached to the spot immediately. This is one of the oldest hospitals in the state and is also the state referral hospital. AMC to cater 2000 families under sanitat | AGARTALA, Dec 24 (TIWN): When the Howrah is getting polluted day by day and erosion is taking place regularly, the concern authority is yet to take any kind of full-fledged programme to stop the rising pollution. Talking to TIWN correspondent, Mayor Dr. Prafullajit Sinha of Agartala Municipal Corporation on Wednesday said that to stop the dumping of human waste in the river they are planning to bring more 2000 families under the sanitation programme. It is to be mentioned here that the families which are using the Howrah River as a dumping zone for the human waste and polluting the water of the river, AMC has been planning to provide sanitation facility to the more 2000 needy families. Besides, Mayor Dr. Sinha has mentioned that in last five year tenure of the Agartala Municipal Corporation, Altogether 18, 800 beneficiaries were provided with sanitation facilities. Dumping of human excreta and solid waste has immensely resulted to the pollution of the river water. Continuous cleaning of clothes, washing of utensils and bathing of the cattle is the major source of the pollution. Airport expansion invites tender for eng | AGARTALA, Dec 24 (TIWN): After the Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) has given clearance to the plan of setting up new terminal building at Agartala Airport, Airport director on Wednesday said that there is not much progress in the work of the Agartala airport. Talking to TIWN correspondent, Airport Director on Wednesday said that the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has invited tender for engaging Project Management Consultants for carrying out the Rs. 338 crore projects. He further said that until the tender is not clarified nothing can be done regarding the construction. It is worthy to be mentioned here that the state government has already handed over required land for facelift work of the Agartala airport.However, the project includes extension of runway to help accommodate wide bodied aircraft and expansion and improvement of the passenger’s amenities. Four aero bridge provision will there in the new terminal building, so that it can handle 1000 passengers both departure and arrival at a time. However the present terminal can handle only 500 passengers. Palatana power plant resumes operation: | AGARTALA, Dec 23 (TIWN): After a major jolt, a unit of Palatana power plant has once again resumed its operation from Tuesday last night, as confirmed by OTPC MD Satyajit Ganguly. Talking to TIWN correspondent, OTPC MD Satyajit Ganguly said that a unit of Palatana has once again resumed operation from last night and is generating power in full swing. Reportedly, due to some unavoidable technical snag a unit of Palatana power plant went under shut down, however, with the remedy it has again resumed power generation in full pace, said Ganguly. However, it is to be mentioned here that among the two units of Palatana power plant, one is under complete shut down since past 15 days due to the shortage of gas supply from ONGC and the technical snag, on the other one has resulted unintentional shut down of both the units of the Palatana power plant, however, as per the latest report an unit has regain operation well with limited gas supply from ONGC.Laying stress on the status of the other unit of Palatana, Ganguly said that there is only limited amount of gas supply for which it is only possible to run only one unit of the power plant and the other one lying idle as there is no gas supply from ONGC.He also said that as per the agreement ONGC is suppose to supply 2.65 MMSCMD gas to OTPC to run both unit of power plants but at this stage ONGC is supplying very minimal amount of gas which is posing a hurdle to the power generation.It is to be mentioned here that ONGC is supply gas to the NEEPCO’s Monarchak power plant which is now producing around 70 MW power and the entire power in given to TSECL. | 23-Dec-2015 |
'Rurban Clusters' to push development of | AGARTALA, Dec 23 (TIWN / IANS) : The Modi government will develop 300 rural growth clusters, called 'Rurban Clusters', across the country to unearth their latent potential and accelerate growth of rural India, a senior official said here.The 'Rurban Clusters' would comprise several contiguous villages which have economic capability but need supplementary economic, social and physical support to transform the image of rural India. This would be achieved by creating infrastructure ranging from mobile health units to encouraging digital literacy along with agro-processing and agri-services units, the official said."The 'Rurban Clusters' scheme would be implemented under the newly-launched Shyama Prasad Mukherji Rurban Mission (SPMRM) with an outlay of Rs. 5,142.08 crore(almost $580 million) in the next five years - 2015-16 to 2019-20," said Aparajita Sarangi, joint secretary in the union rural development ministry."The actual works to form the 'Rurban Clusters' would start with the preparation of an Integrated Cluster Action Plan (ICAP) by January 10," Sarangi said here at a two-day meeting of senior officials of nine hill states - seven from the northeast (except Sikkim), Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand."These clusters would be developed by provisioning of economic activities, developing skills of people and local entrepreneurship besides providing infrastructure facilities," the official added. | 23-Dec-2015 |

Uncertainty looms over Rs 5,000 crores U | AGARTALA, Dec 22 (TIWN): Uncertainty looms large over the fertilizer plant worthing Rs. 5,000 crores at Khubal in Unakoti District of Tripura. Talking to TIWN correspondent, District Magistrate Mrinal Kanti Nath on Monday said that the concern authority is still looking for land. It is to be mentioned here that Tripura government has allotted 800 acres of land to set up a Rs.5,000 crore Urea fertiliser plant. The ONGC, Tripura Government and private Chambal Fertilizers and Chemicals had signed memorandum of understanding (MOU) on April 9 to set up the plant in Unakoti District by 2016. But there is no sign of any progress in the plant work. However, allegation has been raised that the project of the commencement of the Chambal Fertilizers and Chemicals is being delayed intentionally which has brewed resentments among the common people. State-owned ONGC had earlier signed MoU with a Rajasthan-based private company to set up a gas-based fertilizer plant in Tripura to meet the growing shortage of urea in the eastern and north-eastern states and adjoining Bangladesh. However, the plant was supposed to be operational by 2016, but due to delay in the project hit with uncertainity. ONGC in ,Chambal Fertilisers and Chemicals Limited (CFCL) took the initiative to set up the Rs.5, 000 crore plant in Northern Tripura. Talking to TIWN correspondent, PWD Chief Engineer said that the construction agency is carrying out renovation work at different spots of the road. He also said that the renovation of a road is a continuous process and agency is continuously carrying out the renovation work to avoid any traffic glitch on the NH-44 as it is one of the lifelines of Tripura. The deplorable condition of National Highway 44 – the only road connectivity that links mainland India with the eastern part of Meghalaya, Barak Valley in Assam, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura – has for a long time, now remained a harrowing experience for helpless commuters but it seems that the road will be renovated soon and there will be smooth movements of vehicles on the street. If rain does not interrupt the road will be renovated soon and the wok will be completed in just few days, said PWD Chief Engineer.
