AGARTALA, Dec 22 (TIWN): Uncertainty looms large over the fertilizer plant worthing Rs. 5,000 crores at Khubal in Unakoti District of Tripura. Talking to TIWN correspondent, District Magistrate Mrinal Kanti Nath on Monday said that the concern authority is still looking for land. It is to be mentioned here that Tripura government has allotted 800 acres of land to set up a Rs.5,000 crore Urea fertiliser plant. The ONGC, Tripura Government and private Chambal Fertilizers and Chemicals had signed memorandum of understanding (MOU) on April 9 to set up the plant in Unakoti District by 2016. But there is no sign of any progress in the plant work. However, allegation has been raised that the project of the commencement of the Chambal Fertilizers and Chemicals is being delayed intentionally which has brewed resentments among the common people. State-owned ONGC had earlier signed MoU with a Rajasthan-based private company to set up a gas-based fertilizer plant in Tripura to meet the growing shortage of urea in the eastern and north-eastern states and adjoining Bangladesh. However, the plant was supposed to be operational by 2016, but due to delay in the project hit with uncertainity. ONGC in ,Chambal Fertilisers and Chemicals Limited (CFCL) took the initiative to set up the Rs.5, 000 crore plant in Northern Tripura. However, after 800 acre of land has been allotted for the plant till day no progress has been witnessed.
Leaving behind a question that why there is so much delay in the commissioning of the 5000 crore fertilizer plant at North Tripura.
Earlier talking to ONGC Asset Manager V P Mahawar said that ONGC is exploring the possibility of more gas field in North Tripura before making commitment.
