Skill Development progamme held at Pragna Bhawan

AGARTALA, Dec 22 (TIWN): A skill development programme has been organized by the Director of Skill Development, Government of Tripura at Prgna Bhawan on Tuesday, in association with Director of Industries & Commerce, Director of Urban Development, TRLM-RD Dept., Director of Minority Welfare, Director of Handlooms and Handicrafts.

The programme was inaugurated by CM Manik Sarkar at 11.30 am. Tapan Chakraborty, Minister for Industries & Commerce also remained present during the programme. 

The name of the schemes are : 1) MES under SDI (249 trainees), 2) DDU-GKY (438 trainees), 3)Employment through Skills Training (670 training), 4)CSR initiatives of Indus Integrated Information Management Ltd. (34 trainees), 5) Integrated Skill Development Schemes (ISDS) under Ministry of Textiles (74).  In total 1465 trainees are being trained under this skill development training.

It’s to be mentioned here that the skill development is critical for achieving faster, sustainable and inclusive growth on one hand and for providing decent employment opportunities to the growing young population on the other.

It’s true that the state as a whole is far richer in wealth  and natural resources, but its potential is yet to be tapped to the full extent. The economy of Tripura as a whole is predominantly agrarian but recent trend of globalization and liberalization has not left the state untouched which has thus paved the need for multi skilled workers.

During the programme it has been said that State Skill Development Mission reconstituted headed by Tripura CM and other Ministers of Agriculture, Public Works, Industries & Commerce, Power, Rural Development and Chief Secretaries dealing with these Depts.

Amongst other initiatives taken by the Govt. are :1) ITI Indranagar—Upgradation in Automobile Sector by TATA Trust, 2) Vocational Skill Academies as in Hair & Skin Care by Jawed Habib with target of training 5000 beneficiaries in next 1 year, 3) NSHM Udaan Skills Ltd, 5) World Class Sill Centre, New Delhi—providing training for retail & Hospitality sector for unemployment youths under NEC scheme.
