AGARTALA, Dec 23 (TIWN): After a major jolt, a unit of Palatana power plant has once again resumed its operation from Tuesday last night, as confirmed by OTPC MD Satyajit Ganguly. Talking to TIWN correspondent, OTPC MD Satyajit Ganguly said that a unit of Palatana has once again resumed operation from last night and is generating power in full swing. Reportedly, due to some unavoidable technical snag a unit of Palatana power plant went under shut down, however, with the remedy it has again resumed power generation in full pace, said Ganguly. However, it is to be mentioned here that among the two units of Palatana power plant, one is under complete shut down since past 15 days due to the shortage of gas supply from ONGC and the technical snag, on the other one has resulted unintentional shut down of both the units of the Palatana power plant, however, as per the latest report an unit has regain operation well with limited gas supply from ONGC.Laying stress on the status of the other unit of Palatana, Ganguly said that there is only limited amount of gas supply for which it is only possible to run only one unit of the power plant and the other one lying idle as there is no gas supply from ONGC.He also said that as per the agreement ONGC is suppose to supply 2.65 MMSCMD gas to OTPC to run both unit of power plants but at this stage ONGC is supplying very minimal amount of gas which is posing a hurdle to the power generation. It is to be mentioned here that ONGC is supply gas to the NEEPCO’s Monarchak power plant which is now producing around 70 MW power and the entire power in given to TSECL.

He also confirmed that The TSECL authority is being served a notice to clear the bills to OTPC as the pending bill is higher and if the bill is not clarified necessary action will be taken.

However, it is to be mentioned here that earlier the sudden shutdown of both the unit in commercial generation brought the state into severe shortage of power supply that resulted in long and frequent load-shedding.

Reportedly, ONGC is scheduled to supply 2.65 million metric standard cubic metres of gas per day to the plant as per the agreement signed between both the parties for next 25 years. Adding to that OTPC with the stakes of all other Northeastern states and power grid corporation, had erected 661 kms 400 KV double circuit transmission line up to Bongaigoan for evacuation of power from Palatana.

Palatana has been registered on May 15 last year with United Nations as the biggest project of Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) of the world as per Kyoto Protocol. From each credit of carbon is equal to one metric ton of saleable carbon-di-oxide, which is cost approximately 12 US dollar of each credit.
