Deaths of patients due to wrong treatmen | AGARTALA, Dec 18 (TIWN): Continuous deaths of patients in the two referral hospitals of the state, IGM and AGMC over last few days allegedly due to the wrong treatment has brewed up resentment among the mind of the people. In last two days there are reports of two deaths, who died in the two different referral hospitals, but so far Health Minister Badal Choudhury is silent over the issues. Tripura's Healthcare system further deteriorated under Chief Minister Manik Sarkar's 'Golden Era' as Hospitals tuned out to be life taking zone. Fuming over the negligence in the treatment by the doctors which led to the death of 2 people in a row at IGM and AGMC hospitals brewed resentment among the doctors and deceased family members. Just before people could recover from the shock of the death of a patient in AGMC hospital allegedly due to the wrong treatment, one more death of another patient at IGM hospital brewed tensions across the state. It is alleged that both the patient died due to the wrong treatments by the doctors and due to the pushing of wrong injection to the body of the patients. "Currently our government gives rice at Rs.2 per kg to 3.33 crore people in the state. We are starting a new scheme for food security from January 27. "Three crore additional people will be included in this system and will get wheat and rice at Rs.2 per kg," Banerjee said at the state secretariat Nabanna after a cabinet meeting.She also said an additional 70 lakh people have filled up forms to get subsidised food and will be getting cereals at half the market price. Altogether around seven crore people will be entitled to benefits of the state government's food security schemes, she said. Tripura's dying Tea industry : 'Climate | KOLKATA / AGARTALA, Dec 18 (TIWN): Climate change is going to "positively" impact rice and tea crops in northeast, a scientist said on Friday.According to Chandan Mahanta of the IIT-Guwahati, a modelling study carried out by the institute showed in the next 15 years (till 2030), rice and tea can actually have an advantage from climate change."Climate change is going to positively impact rice and tea in at least coming 15 years in the northeast. We have modelled that," Mahanta said here at the South Asia Water Dialogue, adding that scientists looked at climate data, such as temperature, humidity and precipitation in the region to study the changes on the two important crops.Explaining the variation, he said: "Sometimes it's not just the temperature alone but also the rate of change of temperature or the rate of change of precipitation so it is not always very simple to say."In addition, the difference in growing times also has an influence."Tea is grown at three different times. Loopholes in police investigation delays | AGARTALA, Dec 18 (TIWN): Although police have lodged an FIR against the former CPI-M MLA Manoranjan Acharjee for his alleged involvement in a sexual abuse case of a minor girl, but even after passage of many days police is yet failed to arrest the culprit. It is alleged that only to save him from the legal actions of law police is intentionally delaying the case in the name of so called investigation. Talking to TIWN correspondent, the officer in-charge of Birganj police station on Friday said that they had registered a general diary entry against the accused and are investigating the case. When asked about the progress of the investigation, he further said that “interrogation is underway and actions will be taken accordinglyâ€. Uncertainty looms over the fate of 10, 323 teachers as the next hearing to be done in the mid of January by 13 most probably or on January 17 at the Apex court.The special leave petition (SLP) challenging the High court of Tripura that terminated the jobs of 10,323 school teachers would be placed before the Apex court for the next hearing in the mid of January.Gopal Singh, standing counsel of Tripura in the apex court is scheduled to represent the state government.Uncertainty looms large over the future of 10,323 teachers working in different government schools of Tripura, whose jobs were cancelled by the High Court with effect from December 31 last because of faulty appointment process based on unconstitutional employment policy.Terming the job as illegal, a division bench of High Court of Tripura headed by Chief Justice Deepak Gupta directed the state government to cancel the jobs of the teachers after December last and by that time to frame an employment policy within two months and appoint new teachers.It is to be mentioned here that earlier on May 7,2014 a division bench of the Tripura high court, headed by Chief Justice Deepak Gupta, terminated the jobs of 10,323 teachers, including 1,100 postgraduate, 4,617 graduate and 4,606 undergraduate teachers. Talking to TIWN correspondent, Power Minister Manik Dey said that although power tariff has not been finalized yet, this could be done after charging of the 400 KV double circuit transmission line connecting Suryamaninagar substation to South Comilla substation in Bangladesh. He further said that although the trial run was successful, but to start the transmission in full swing requires much more time. 101 MW Monarchak power plant capable to | AGARTALA, Dec 17 (TIWN): Powered by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC), Tripura's 101 MW gas-based Monarchak power plant is now fully capable to generate about 52 MW of power on an average with the fluent supply of gas from ONGC since November 27. Talking to TIWN correspondent, NEEPCO official said that ONGC is continuously supplying 0.40 mmunit of gas to Nscmd EEPCO’s 101 MW Monarchak since November 27 without any major interruption. It was further confirmed with NEEPCO General Manager (Electrical) Samar Ranjan Biswas that Monarchak power plant is further expecting to get 0.5 mmscmd unit of gas in the coming days which may further boost the power production in the state. It is to be mentioned here that NEEPCO has demanded 0.5 mmscmd unit of gas but ONGC is unable to supply only 0.40 mmscmd due to technical problems. If not major, there are minor reports of frequent interruptions and ONGC will be able to supply 0.5 MSCMPD gas by the middle of 2016.Failure on the part of authorities concerned to ensure adequate and regular supply of gas as well as technical glitches have led to an inordinate delay in the commissioning of the state-run NEEPCO's second biggest thermal power project in Northeast India and resulted in huge losses to it for past many months.The ONGC, after many negotiations and meetings, decided to supply gas to the power plant from November 27. Hill Bandh: About 200 picketers arrested | AGARTALA, Dec 16 (TIWN): As expected the unruly IPFT supporters once again turned violent on Wednesday as hundreds of IPFT workers and supporters had gathered in front of the ADC headquarter at Khumlung to put into effect the 'bandh ' by picketing. A total of 200 picketers were arrested from different spots for violating the situation at the ADC hamlets. However, sources said that about 4 people injured in a tussle in the ADC areas. It is also alleged that the CPI-M supporters tried to ransack the situation and got into tussle with IPFT picketers and left them seriously injured.To press higher for their demands, the IPFT has called for 12 hour strike in the ADC areas in demand of separate Twipra land. Even though the employees and officers of ADC had gone to the office through a different route, the IPFT supporters raised slogans and sought to break by the police and TSR force.However, a major scuffle and a mild lathi-charge in which four IPFT workers were massively injured and more than 200 were arrested by police. The sources said that injured IPFT supporters are immediately rushed to AGMC. The injured are now undergoing treatment at AGMC hospital. It is to be mentioned here that so far no more untoward incident in reported. IPFT has called the 12 hour strike in ADC area in demand of a separate state. Tripura police finally lodged complaint | AGARTALA, Dec 16 (TIWN): With pressure from different sections of the society the Tripura, police finally lodged a complaint against expelled MLA Manoranjan Acharjee in allegation of sexually abusing a minor at Amarpur party office.After passage of several days of the gruesome activity with the expelled CPI-M MLA Manoranjan Acharjee, the Amarpur police on Wednesday lodged a complaint against him in allegation of sexually abusing a minor on November 27.It is to be mentioned here that police by its own will has lodged the complaint against the accused and is scheduled to take action against him as per the guidelines of law. However, on Wednesday police lodged complaint against him and will take the necessary actions.CPI-M has kicked off its one MLA of Amarpur Assembly segment Manoranjan Acharjee on charge of moral error. It is to be mentioned here that the gruesome incident took place on Nov 27 and intentionally the ruling party big heads hush up the matter and remain silent on that issue. Interestingly, the party has not given a chance to Acharjee to clarify his stand on the allegations leveled against him.
