Union HRD Minister discusses on New Educ | AGARTALA, September 18 (TIWN): Union Human Resource and Development (HRD) Minister Smriti Irani on Friday presided over the Zonal Consultation meeting of North Eastern states on the new education policy by the Ministry of Human Resource Development at Pragna Bhawan.HRD Secretary V.S. Oberoi (Higher Education) and S.C. Khuntia (School Education) and senior officials of the education departments of all the eight northeast states attended the meeting. Tripura Education Minister Tapan Chakraborty said Friday's meeting was held as the follow up meeting of the 63rd meeting of the Central Advisory Board of Education (CABE) that was held in New Delhi on August 19. Meghalaya CM overtakes Tripura CM on 'sp | SHILLONG / AGARTALA, Sep 18 (TIWN): Deriding the central government over its non-committal stance on special category status to northeastern states, Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma on Thursday asked it to walk the talk on restoring the status for the region's states."What the government of India or what its leadership is speaking in respect of northeast that they will take a special care for northeast must be demonstrated through action. E-portal to help monitor northeast proje | NEW DELHI / AGARTALA, Sep 17 (TIWN): A newly-launched e-portal will help in the submission, surveillance and follow-up of developmental projects in the northeast, a minister said on Thursday.Minister of State for the Development of the Northeastern Region (DoNER) Jitendra Singh said the portal will help monitor projects falling under the ministry's Non-lapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR).His comments came when Nagaland Chief Minister T.R. Zeliang called on him, according to an official statement. Singh said the portal has special relevance for the DoNER ministry as it is a region-based ministry and projects are submitted by the eight states of the northeast.The portal, he said, will also help avoid complaints regarding delays or extraneous considerations like corruption.Stating that his ministry has stakes in all other ministries of the central government, the DoNER minister said that the new portal will help in keeping track of various stages of project activities among different departments and ministries and the planning departments of the northeastern state governments.In order to overcome delays, the portal will be programmed to send automatic computerised reminders to the state governments and others concerned, Singh told Zeliang. | 17-Sep-2015 |

SBI ATM robbery: One month ends, Manik's | AGARTALA, Sept 17 (TIWN): It is going to be one month, yet the Tripura Police is clueless about the rest of the five absconding miscreants involved in the ATM robbery and lifting case from the Beltali SBI ATM counter under the AD Nagar Police Station.The incident of ATM robber and lifting the entire ATM took place on August 18 in the midnight.Talking to TIWN Correspondent on Wednesday, Sub-Inspector Bikas Debbarma said that the police is yet clueless about the five miscreants and the remaining sum that is amounting Rs. 20.23 Lakh.Detailing about the daring heist, he further said that investigation is going on and the police is trying its level best to trace the absconding miscreants as soon as possible.It is to be mentioned here that if the absconding miscreants are not arrested soon than the police will not be able to recover the remaining amount of Rs. 20.23 lakh.In a joint collaboration with the Assam police, the A.D.Nagar police had also collected huge number of evidence from Assam related to the ATM loot and has identified all the five other absconding culprits. All the cases were registered by police as UD cases. There are nine police station in the area, 49 UD cases was registered in West Agartala police station, East Agartala police station 34 UD cases was registered, East Agartala Women police station – 30 cases, West Agartala women police station – 21 cases, NCC police station – 26 cases,Airport police station – 15 cases , AD nagar police station – 15 cases, Amtali police station – 43 cases. Out of 251 deaths, 182 are men and 69 are women.UD case according to police book means its case of suicide. Police after investigation will submit the final report to sub divisional magistrate. If proper investigion was done by police than 20 percent of cases would have been registered under section 302 (murder) or under section 306 (abetment of suicide).If the families of deceased are economically weak, then police termed the cases as sucide.
