AGARTALA, September 17 (TIWN): Ten-day long Ganesh Chaturthi has already began on Thursday; people across the state busy in welcoming the elephant headed Lord in their homes, Pandal, shops and societies.

The auspicious occasion of the Ganesh Chaturthi will continue till Anant Chauturdashi that is on September 27.

This year’s Ganesh chaturthi coincides with other festivals as well - the fasting holy month of Paryushan is underway and so is the Mount Mary fair. Besides, Bakrid, would be celebrated on September 25.

The birthday of Lord Ganesha is celebrated in most of the houses with tradition and rituals. Big idols of Lord Ganesha are placed in every society and worship twice in a day by offering Modak and other traditional dishes.

Lord Ganesha is worshiped in the shops and societies with tradition, pomp and deity.

Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the most sacred festivals celebrated across the nation. It is observed to celebrate the birth of the supreme God of wisdom and prosperity.

Over the last week, people have started bringing the idols. However, the maximum Ganpati idols for homes were brought on Wednesdayamidst chants of ‘Ganpati Bappa Morya’.

According to Hindu mythology, Lord Ganesha is the son of Lord Shiva (the God of Destruction in the Hindu Holy Trinity of Creator-Preserver-Destroyer) and Parvati.

One of the most adorable God, Ganesha or Ganpati has the head of an elephant on which rests an elegant tiara, four podgy hands joined to a sizeable belly with each hand holding its own symbolic object, a trishul in one, an ankush (made from his very own broken tooth) in another, a lotus in the third and a rosary (which is sometimes replaced by modaks, his favourite sweet) in the fourth.

Revered as the deity of auspiciousness and wisdom, Lord Ganesha is also famous for being a trickster and for his profound sense of humour.
