Cold waves sweep in Tripura, Mercury dips to 8 degree Celsius

AGARTALA, Dec 18 (TIWN): Temperature in Agartala has dipped to eight degree Celsius on Thursday night and is fluctuating with the progress of the day on Friday, as confirmed by meteorological department.

The sudden drop in day temperature has resulted in minimal difference between day and night temperatures. Sun failed to break through the clouds and no sunshine was witnessed on Friday also and weather remained cloudy. Sudden fall in day temperature was attributed to an air circulation. Officials of meteorological department said that the clouding activity is expected to continue for at least next two days. 

It may lead to a further drop in night temperature while the day temperature is expected to be on the higher side, official said. 

Maximum Day temperature in Tripura on Friday was recorded at 25 degrees Celsius while the minimum temperature was recorded at 12 degree Celsius. 

On the other hand there was no major change in the day temperature that hovered around 25 degree Celsius marks. Minimum temperature recorded was 12 degrees Celsius in the day and there is possibility that the temperature will fall in the night. In its forecast for Friday, weatherman said that the cloudy sky will remain with chance of a light rain in next few days.

Mercury slipped down to eight degrees Celsius last night due to cool breeze. Mist or partial fog was also observed on Friday morning. Slight rainfall was also recorded in isolated part of the state.

However, actual winter days will prevail in the state by weekend once the wind pattern which is said to be in transition is settled, the forecast said.

Further, the official mentioned that there is an expectation that the temperature will most probably fall more after December 20.

Tripura had recorded its lowest temperature in winter at 2° C in 1972.

Mostly during the winter season, life observed crippled across the state because of the chill and attendance seem to get poor in most schools and government offices. The streets wore a deserted look and business establishments were closed.

Generally, in Tripura winter starts from November. This year it has started from the month of December.
