Agartala, Dec 17 (TIWN) :Land Customs Station (LCS) at Srimantapur, bordering Comilla district of Bangladesh, is also ready for operationalisation to facilitate border trade between the two countries.
Union Commerce Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on January 6 is scheduled to open second land custom station (LCS) of Tripura at Srimantapur of Sonamura Sub Division under Sipahijala District.
Industries and Commerce Minister of Tripura Tapan Chakraborty today informed that Srimantapur LCS has already been prepared for facilitating business between India and Bangladesh but it got delayed because of administrative formalities.
He, however, pointed out that the work in third LCS at Ragna in North Tripura is progressing well.
Besides, designated LCSs in various border areas along Tripura, the state government has been persuading for opening haats in potential trading areas. Tripura has two border haats operating in Srinagar of South Tripura and Kamalasagar of West Tripura. These were opened earlier this year. The haats have given opportunity to the small traders belonging to bordering villages of both the countries to boost formal trade and LCS will further enhance the business, Mr Chakraborty added
