Tripura forest dept. mulls a plan to go | AGARTALA, August 22 (TIWN): In view of the extinction of rare turtles in Tripura, the state forest department has drawn a plan for captive breeding of the soft-shell N nigrican turtles, said official. The turtles are found only in the water body of Tripura Tripureswari Temple at Udaipur. The drive is expected to act as a safety net for the turtle conservation in the state’s wild life sanctuary.However, if the plan being drawn kicks off successfully then the breed turtles can be released in the temple at Udaipur under Gomati Tripura District, the official said.Asked about the availability of turtles in the state, the official said that the number of turtles present in the water body at present, is sufficient to go for captive breeding and once it is being done the state on yet another momentum would receive vast number of rare turtles found only in the state’s wild life sanctuary.He also said that the state forest department is also planning in this view to get a breeding centre and develop hatchery at Sepahijala sanctuary as per specific plan under the supervision of biologist.It is to be mentioned here that getting a legal push from the High Court very recently this year the department is currently working at Udaipur Temple’s water body in its eastern bank to get a proper hatchery ground to pave the way for rearing and breeding of turtles which are already in verge of extinction.The authority is currently actively engaged to the work. | 22-Aug-2015 |
Another terror outfit may ink peace acco | AGARTALA, Aug 22 (TIWN /IANS) After the NSCN (IM), one more banned terrorist group in northeastern India - the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) - may give up arms and sign a peace pact with the government, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar said on Saturday."Officials of union home ministry, central intelligence bodies and Tripura government have already held two rounds of talks during the past six months with the NLFT in Delhi and Shillong," Sarkar told IANS."We are ready to continue the peace talks with the NLFT. ""Under the Indian constitution, we are ready to hold talks on any issues of the NLFT," said Sarkar, who also holds the home portfolio.According to the chief minister, there are at least 16 NLFT camps in neighbouring Bangladesh and the outfit has around 80 cadres with roughly 100 sophisticated arms."The NLFT also has accounts in Bangladeshi banks," Sarkar said, adding that the Bangladesh government and its security forces had helped a lot in cracking down against various extremists outfits of northeast India.The NLFT reportedly had recently approached the union home ministry to involve former Tripura National Volunteers (TNV) supremo Bijoy Kumar Hrangkhawl and former Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga in the ongoing peace process and dialogue with the government.To a question about the involvement of Hrangkhawl and Zoramthanga, the chief minister said: "We have been saying that Hrangkhawl has a link with the militant outfits, now it was proved with the NLFT's proposal to the MHA (home ministry)." | 22-Aug-2015 |

ATM robbery : One more detained from Ara | AGARTALA, August 21 (TIWN): In another major breakthrough, A.D.Nagar police along with the West police on Friday morning detained one Prabal Dey from Aralia Rishi colony area in allegation of involvement in the ATM loot incident at Beltali area under A.D.Nagar police station on Tuesday midnight. After the recovery of the ATM machine from Ranir Bazaar Ghuramara area and nabbing of 4 robbers, police on Friday nabbed one Prabal Dey for carrying out the process of breaking the lock of the ATM machine in his wielding shop at Aralaia on the night of the incident. Reportedly, on the night of the incident on Tuesday the robbers after lifting the ATM machine from Beltali ATM kiosk rushed to the wielding shop of Prabal Dey and with the help of the hi-tech equipments and tools the robbers carried out the mission of breaking the security lock of the ATM machine, said Superintendent of Police Bijoy Nag. Fail to register FIR : High Court orders | AGARTALA, August 21: Having failed to register a complaint by a police station, High Court of Tripura issued show cause notice to Chief Secretary and DGP on Thursday. The affidavit should be submitted in court on 9 September next. Besides, the court directed to mention in the affidavit why police station fails comply the Supreme Court order. The order was given in hearing on Thursday, when contempt of court by Birganj police station by division bench headed by Chief Justice Deepak Gupta.According to report, on 31 May 2013 at six in evening Amar Das was brutally murdered in his resident under Birganj police station. After two days, i.e is on 2 June, the police station took the murder case. He was murdered for land related issues.Chief Justice Gupta took a somuto case on the issue. On last hearing, OC of Biraganj police station Sunil Kumar Das was ordered to remain present physically in court on 20 August to tell court why case was registered after two days of murder. Accordingly, the OC appeared in court and begged pardon. The court pardoned him, along with Chief Secretary and DGP was orderd to reply why police station’s take time to register complain. The name of the blacklisted organization was mentioned in the website of central government, in future no grants from centre will be given. The name of the organization is – Tripura Apex Weavers Co – operative Society better known as “Tantumitaâ€. It was given a grant of Rs 3.35 lakhs by Union Ministry of Women and Child Welfare in the 1998. The sanctioned amount was given in four phases from 1999 to 2013, whereas the amount was siphoned off depriving the beneficiaries. Till date officials of Tantumita failed to give utilization certificate to the central government even after repeated reminder for last two years. Even letter was written to than minister of social welfare department, principal secretary Banmali Sinha and Nepal Sinha and director. But no steps was taken, all dodged the issue. At last on 18 September, 2013 the centre along with 48 NGOs issued show cause notice to the state government undertaking organization. Stolen ATM machine recovered from Howrah | AGARTALA, August 20 (TIWN): Yet in another major blow the A.D. Nagar police on Thursday morning recovered the stolen Automated Teller Machine (ATM) from the Howrah River under west Tripura in Ranir Bazar Ghoramara area which was allegedly stolen by the robbers on Tuesday late night. Four dive men with the help of crane picked up the ATM machine from the river. According to police, the ATM was lifted from Beltali area under A.D.Nagar police station on Tuesday midnight. However, 4 miscreants are being arrested in this connection so far and 2 are yet absconding. After conducting continuous raids in different areas police on Thursday morning recovered the ATM machine from Howrah River. Sources claim that the ATM is being recovered from Howrah river at Ranirbazar Ghoramara area. Panic gripped the area when on Wednesday morning the localites spotted that the ATM counter was opened and the ATM was missing from the counter and immediately informed the police.It is to be mentioned here that getting alarm police rushed to the spot with dog spot and conducted an investigation. As a part of the investigation the major exit points were all put on a high alert to nab the miscreants.In a daring heist the hi-tech robbers looted one ATM machine of State Bank of India (SBI) on Tuesday night from Agartala Arundhutinagar Beltoli area under A.D.Nagar police station.4 have been detained in connection to the incident, police said. NBFCs and Chit Funds: Taxpayer’s | AGARTALA, August 20 (TIWN): In the name of investigation of Chit Funds /Non-banking financial companies ( NBFCs), lakhs of money are being drained out from state government exchequer. On direction from high court, the state government has constituted Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate against NBFCs. A team of six members of SIT left for Guwahati and Kolkata for investigation on Wednesday, all expenditure be made by State Government. This is second tour of the team outside the state. During the first tour they investigated if the NBFCs was registered under companies’ registration Act and collected name, address of NBFCs officials. On second tour, reportedly found out the whereabouts of the officials, it is doubtful if the visiting team will ever find the NBFCs officials. Besides , there is no time frame when will the team return after investigation. CID Superintendent Sanjay Roy is heading the SIT, till date there was no headway in the investigation. Not a single official of NBFCs could be summoned by the team for investigation.
