AGARTALA, August 22 (TIWN): The northeastern states of Tripura on yet another fresh drive towards using the neighbouring Bangladesh soil had urged the centre to think over power transmission line to connect Agartala with West Bengal. The issue was raised in the North East Region Power Corporation (NERPC) meeting held at Guwahati on Friday being attended by state power minister Manik Dey and the representatives from other northeastern states.
Talking to the reporters here at the civil secretariat on Friday Minister said, “I urged the central government through the meeting to think over an alternative power transmission line from Agartala to Kolkata via Bangladesh for the expansion of connectivity with the national grid.”
He said that of the line is drawn up than it would not only facilitate the state but also it will benefit the other northeastern states towards getting stable and reliable grid connection.
Minister Manik Dey had attended the 15th NERPC meeting held at Guwahati with the central representatives and the representatives from other northeastern states also remained present and discussed the power related issues.
NERPC is working relentlessly for making northeastern region power system operation reliable, efficient and economic since its formation.
However later expressing displeasure over the delay of such meeting Dey said that the 15th NERPC meeting is being held almost after three years as a result many important issues remained unresolved for quite a long time.
Besides, on the sideline of the issue of power dispatch to Bangladesh Dey said that government authority is actively engaged to the project work and are trying hard to complete installation of the transmission lines in Agartala sector.
