The Public Prosecutor (PP) of the case had kicked off his argument on Saturday just after the defence lawyer Pijush Kanti Biswas finished his argument. Private clinics shutdown from Aug. 1, Do | AGARTALA, August 1 (TIWN): Finally the Tripura government doctors had shutdown their private clinics from Saturday saying ‘No’ to the private practises from now. The decision has come up just after the High Court on its interim order had put a ban on doctor’s private practises. Despite the HC had directed the doctors to submit an affidavit with the court the government doctors who opposed the ban on private practises had not acted towards placing the affidavit. The last date of submitting the affidavit was July 31. The HC on May 29 this year putting a ban on the private practises said the government doctors would not be allowed private practice at chambers for more than three hours on weekdays when they perform duties in hospitals or government-run health centres. On holidays, the government doctors will be allowed to practise for a maximum of six hours. Besides, a doctor cannot charge more than Rs 200 from a patient on the first day and then not more than Rs 100 on each subsequent day. No doctor would be allowed to set up a chamber in any private nursing home, pharmacy, pathology centre or diagnostic centre for private practice. | 01-Aug-2015 |
Facebook connects 'fighters' in Indo-Ban | KOLKATA/AGARTALA, Aug 1 (TIWN/IANS): A group of youth, who alerted the world to the plight of people in the India-Bangladesh enclaves by uniting under the 'Facebook Fighters' banner, are now busy raising a toast to their new found 'freedom'.As celebrations began at the stroke of midnight on Friday with the much-awaited exchange of enclaves (chhitmahals) between India and Bangladesh, the youth marked the momentous occasion online. Aged between 18 to 25 years, the youngsters who were residing in the enclaves on both sides of the border, rejoiced in the success of their massive online campaign by sporting white tee-shirts with the orange logo 'ff' signifying 'Facebook Fighters' with the initials of Bharat Bangladesh Enclave Exchange Coordination Committee (BBEECC) etched beneath. United by internet and smartphones, the group includes members from all the 51 Bangladeshi enclaves in India and has representations from the residents of Indian enclaves in Bangladesh. Rejoicing for 50,000 people on India-Ba | KOLKATA/DHAKA/AGARTALA, Aug 1 (TIWN/IANS): Cheers went up, national flags were hoisted and candles lit, but there were some tears too, as India and Bangladesh swapped 162 small enclaves of land in each other's possession at the midnight hour - ending nearly 70 years of statelessness for over 50,000 people residing there.The 111 Indian enclaves in Bangladesh and 51 Bangladeshi enclaves in India were swapped as per the Land Boundary Agreement and the 2011 Protocol, instruments of ratification of which were exchanged during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Dhaka in May.For the around 14,000 people living in 51 Bangladeshi enclaves in Indian territory, and the 37,000 residing in 111 Indian enclaves in Bangladesh, they now have a country of their own. As the clock struck the midnight hour on Friday night, the 51 Bangladeshi land enclaves in Coochbehar district of West Bengal, and the 111 Indian enclaves located in the Bangladesh districts of Lalmonirhat (59), Panchagarh (36), Kurigram 12 and Nilphamari (4) were amalgamated with the main land. India, Bangladesh to exchange 162 enclav | AGARTALA, Aug 1 (TIWN): Finally after 4 decades the India and Bangladesh is all set to exchange a total of 162 enclaves as per the Land Boundary Agreement (LBA) being ratified by the Indian Parliament on May this year. Between July 6 and 16, a joint survey was conducted and people in the enclaves were given the option to choose their country. As per the agreement, the disputed Chandan Nagar village under the Dhalai district of Tripura would join with the Indian territory whereas Muhri Char of Belonia under South District of Tripura would merge with the Bangladesh territory. However, the door would be finally opened for over 50,000 virtually stateless people to finally get a national identity. India will hand over 51 enclaves, comprising 7,110 acres to Bangladesh whereas the neighboring country will give India 111 enclaves comprising around 17,160 acres. Tripura government had produced all papers related to Chandannagar and Bangladesh have left Chandananagar for Tripura because the families residing there are Indians and used to do cultivation but in case of Muharichar they are raising various questions, said official.According to the sources Bangladesh and India will implement the LBA of 1974 and the enabling Protocol of September, 2011, in a phased manner over the next 11 months. | 01-Aug-2015 |
